Two-Wheeler Sales March 2018: Bajaj Auto Posts Marginal Growth

Motorcycle sales of Bajaj Auto Limited grew marginally in March 2018, when the company sold more than 1.5 lakh in the domestic market, posting a growth of 5 per cent. Bajaj sold 1,58,987 motorcycles in the domestic market, compared to 1,51,449 motorcycles in the same month a year ago. But exports continue to grow, with Bajaj exporting more than one lakh motorcycles in March, a growth of over 20 per cent growth. In all, Bajaj Auto exported 1,10,952 motorcycles to foreign markets in March 2018, compared to just 92,786 motorcycle exports a year ago.

Exports continue decent growth for Bajaj Auto

Overall, Bajaj Auto posted 11 per cent sales growth in both domestic and export markets, with sales of 2,69,939 motorcycles in March 2018, compared to sales of 2,44,235 motorcycles in March 2017. However, Bajaj Auto sales in the 2017-18 financial year remained largely flat, with a marginal decline over the year. During the period of April 2017 to March 2018, Bajaj Auto sold a total of 19,74,577 motorcycles in the domestic market, while sales of motorcycles in the same period a year before were 20,01,391 motorcycles.

Exports in FY 2018 though grew by 14 per cent, with Bajaj pushing out 13,94,757 motorcycles, compared to 12,18,541 motorcycles exports in the same period a year ago. Overall, sales of Bajaj Auto in the April to March period showed marginal growth of 5 per cent 33,69,334 compared to 32,19,932 motorcycles in the same period a year ago.

Prices of Bajaj CT 100 were reduced recently

Bajaj Auto recently reduced prices of the company's entry-level commuter motorcycle range, the Bajaj CT 100 in the domestic market. However, Bajaj has hiked prices of its flagship product the Bajaj Dominar, by Rs. 2,000. Bajaj recently launched the Bajaj Avenger Street 180 entry-level cruiser, hoping to increase volumes in the premium commuter segment with a cruiser offering, which offers slightly more power than the current offerings in the market. Bajaj is also expected to update the popular Bajaj Pulsar 150 for 2018, including updated graphics, new split seats, new exhaust muffler, and new front suspension. The refreshed Pulsar 150 is expected to be launched soon.
