Two-Wheeler Sales June 2022: Bajaj Auto Domestic Sales Decline 20 Per Cent

While domestic market sales continue to remain under pressure, healthy overseas sales numbers helped Bajaj maintain over three lakh unit sales of motorcycles in June 2022.

Bajaj Auto has reported motorcycle sales of 3,15,948 units in June 2022, a growth of 2 per cent compared to overall two-wheeler sales in June 202, when Bajaj had despatched 3,10,578 units. Of these, Bajaj Auto's domestic market sales declined by 20 per cent, from 1,55,640 units in June 2021 to 1,25,083 units in June 2022. Sales performance in overseas markets however, continue to remain robust with Bajaj reporting 23 per cent growth in export numbers. Overall, Bajaj, which is India's largest exporter of two-wheelers, sold 1,90,865 units in overseas markets, compared to 1,54,938 units in June 2022.

Bajaj Auto's commercial vehicle sales fell 13 per cent in June 2022, when it despatched 31,056 units, compared to 35,558 units the company had despatched in June 2021. Overall two-wheeler and commercial vehicle sales remained flat with 3,47,004 units in June 2022, but overall domestic market sales continue to remain under pressure, skidding 15 per cent from 1,61,836 units in June 2021 to 1,38,351 units in June 2022.

In the year-to-date period, from April to June 2022, overall two-wheeler sales declined 6 per cent at 8,47,158 units, compared to 8,99,305 units in the same period a year ago. In the domestic market, year-to-date volumes of motorcycle sales, particularly commuter segment motorcycles, continue to remain under pressure, recording 3,14,318 unit sales, compared to 3,42,552 unit sales in the same period a year ago. With a healthy monsoon expected this year, domestic market sales are expected to improve in the coming months, leading up to the festive season.
