Bajaj Auto has launched the new-generation Pulsar 250 range in India, and the company is offering two motorcycles - the Bajaj Pulsar F250 and the N250. While the former is a semi-faired motorcycle like the Pulsar 220F, the Pulsar N250 is a naked street bike that has been positioned above the Pulsar NS200. In fact, new 250 cc motorcycles are the biggest displacement bikes to get the Pulsar moniker. The bikes mainly compete with Suzuki's Gixxer 250 and the Gixxer SF 250, respectively. Yamaha's FZ25 is also a direct rival to the Pulsar N250. So, let's put the numbers on the paper and see where they stand against each other, in terms of pricing.

Bajaj Pulsar 250 vs Suzuki Gixxer 250/SF 250

The Suzuki Gixxer 250, on the other hand, is the most expensive among the naked bikes, at Rs. 1.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes it around Rs. 35,000 more expensive than the Pulsar N250 and Rs. 33,000 more expensive than the F250. Now, Suzuki also sells the Gixxer SF 250 in India, which is a fully faired motorcycle, and possibly a more apt rival to the Bajaj Pulsar F250. However, for that sportier and more aerodynamic design, you'll need to pay over Rs. 1.83 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) which is a premium of Rs. 43,000 over the Pulsar F250.

In terms of features, all bikes are nearly at par with each other. All of them get features like an LED headlight, an LED taillight, muscular design, sporty split seats, and disc brakes for both wheels. So, it boils down to the engine. All three bikes get a 249 cc single-cylinder engine with fuel injection. While both the Pulsar 250 and the Suzuki Gixxer 250 are oil-cooled engines, the FZ 25's motor is air-cooled. And that difference is shown in the power figures. The Gixxer 250 and SF 250 are the most powerful, offering about 26 bhp and 22.2 Nm of torque, which mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The Pulsar makes about 24 bhp and 21.5 Nm of peak torque and is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The Yamaha FZ 25, on the other hand, makes nearly 20.5 bhp and 20.1 Nm of peak torque, and it's mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

So, if the price is the key parameter, then the new Bajaj Pulsar 250 models offer the most value for the money, at least on paper. Now we have ridden the bike and our review will be out soon. However, we will also pit these motorcycles against each other in real-world conditions to see which one is a better quarter-litre bike. So, keep watching this space for more updates.
