Two-Wheeler Sales December 2021: Bajaj Auto Sales Down 6 Per Cent

Bajaj Auto has reported overall two-wheeler sales of 3,18,769 units in December 2021, a decline of 6 per cent over 3,38,584 units in the same month a year ago. In the domestic market, Bajaj Auto's two-wheeler sales accounted for 1,27,593 units, declining 1 per cent over 1,28,642 units the company had sold in December 2020. In overseas markets, two-wheeler sales declined 9 per cent in December 2021, to 1,91,176 unit from 2,09,942 units in the same month a year ago. Bajaj Auto's commercial vehicles sales however exhibited strong growth of 29 per cent, with domestic CV sales growing 68 per cent in December 2021.

Bajaj Auto's domestic market sales in December 2021 stood at 1.28 lakh units, while overseas market sales stood at over 1.91 lakh units.

Overall sales of Bajaj Auto, including two-wheelers and commercial vehicles in December 2021 stood at 3,62,470 units, a decline of 3 per cent over December 2020, when the company had recorded sales of 3,72,532 units. Overall domestic market sales (two-wheelers and CVs) in December 2021 accounted for 1,45,979 units, a growth of 5 per cent over 1,39,606 units the company had sold in the same month a year ago.

During the period from April to December 2021, Bajaj Auto sold over 13 lakh units in the domestic market, while exports reported a 36 per cent increase in the same period, to over 16.76 lakh units.

During the April to December 2021 period, domestic two-wheeler sales remained flat with 13,01,984 units, compared to 13,21,644 units sold in the same period a year ago. Exports however continue to grow, reporting a 36 per cent increase in the April to December 2021 period when Bajaj exported 16,75,781 units, compared to 12,36,617 units in the same period a year ago. In all, Bajaj Auto's sales during April to December 2021, stood at 29,77,765 units, recording a growth of 16 per cent over the same period a year ago, when Bajaj Auto had despatched 25,58,261 units.

In the calendar year 2021, Bajaj Auto reported the highest-ever sales volumes for exports in any calendar year, with over 2.5 million (25 lakh) unit sales. This is a 30 per cent increase over the previous year's exports. Two-wheeler exports alone stood at over 2.2 million (22 lakh) units in calendar year 2021, while three-wheelers and quadricycle sales added over 0.3 million (3 lakh) units.

The 125 cc plus segment of motorcycles contributed to 41 per cent of two-wheeler volumes in calendar year 2021, led by the Bajaj Pulsar range of motorcycles, which achieved its highest ever export sales. Dominar grew 49 per cent last year, owing to a strong response to the new Dominar 250. The Bajaj Boxer achieved its highest ever export sales, and continues to lead the market in Africa with over 40% share in key countries such as Nigeria, Uganda, and Democratic Republic of Congo.
