Expert Review on Kia Sonet
Pros
- The 2024 Sonet facelift brings significant design updates, including a more imposing Tiger-Nose grille and sleek LED headlamps, giving it a more modern and bold look.
- It is now equipped with Level 1 ADAS, offering advanced safety features such as Forward Collision Warning and Lane Keep Assist, enhancing overall driving safety.
- The interior has been upgraded with a new 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster and premium features like ventilated seats, a wireless charger, and a Bose surround sound system, improving the overall driving experience
Cons
- There is noticeable turbo lag in the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, especially in lower RPMs, affecting responsiveness during city driving.
- The ride quality is on the softer side, which may not provide enough confidence during aggressive cornering or high-speed maneuvers.
- While the Sonet offers wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for higher trims, lower variants still only support wireless functionality, which feels inconsistent
2024 Kia Sonet facelift offers a more premium experience with substantial upgrades in design, technology, and safety. While the turbo petrol engine’s lag and handling might not appeal to performance enthusiasts, its tech-forward features, safety enhancements, and comfortable cabin make it a standout in the subcompact SUV segment. The Sonet is an ideal choice for those looking for a stylish and feature-rich SUV at a competitive price.
The 2024 Kia Sonet Facelift brings significant updates to one of India’s most popular subcompact SUVs. Initially launched in 2020, the Sonet created new benchmarks in its segment by offering a combination of SUV styling, tech-loaded interiors, and value for money. The 2024 model aims to build on that success with fresh exterior styling, enhanced interiors, and updated tech features, including Level 1 ADAS.
Kia offers the 2024 Sonet in three trims: Tech-Line, GT-Line, and the more premium X-Line. The latter two trims, in particular, are offered with both turbo petrol and diesel engine options, giving consumers a wide range of choices depending on their driving preferences
The 2024 Kia Sonet borrows several design elements from its elder sibling, the Kia Seltos, resulting in a more aggressive, premium appearance. The front now features a more prominent tiger-nose grille flanked by new crown jeweled LED headlamps and star-map pattern DRLs. These updates lend a sense of sophistication while maintaining the SUV’s bold character.
Design Aspect | Details |
---|---|
Front Fascia | Bold tiger-nose grille, inverted L-shaped LED headlamps, and star-map LED DRLs |
Wheel Options | 15-inch steel wheels on lower trims, 16-inch crystal cut alloy wheels for Tech-Line, GT-Line |
Taillamps | Star-map LED connected taillights for a premium rear look |
Color Options | Available in dual-tone combinations, with premium paints like Titan Grey and Aurora Black Pearl |
Kia has ensured that the visual differences between the three trims (Tech-Line, GT-Line, and X-Line) have been minimized, making all variants equally appealing. The GT-Line features dark chrome inserts, while the X-Line opts for a piano black treatment, offering buyers a choice between sporty and elegant styling.
The 2024 Kia Sonet is offered with both turbo petrol and diesel engine options. Each engine delivers a unique driving experience, tailored to different customer needs.
Engine Option | Power | Torque | Transmission | Key Features |
---|---|---|---|---|
1.0L Turbo Petrol (GT-Line) | 118 bhp | 172 Nm | 7-speed DCT or 6-speed iMT | Paddle shifters, turbo punch at high revs |
1.5L Diesel (X-Line) | 114 bhp | 250 Nm | 6-speed Torque Convertor Automatic | Smooth torque delivery, VGT for better efficiency |
- Turbo Petrol: The 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine is lively and offers quick acceleration, but there is noticeable turbo lag below 2,500 RPM. However, once it crosses this threshold, the engine becomes highly responsive. The 7-speed DCT is smooth but could feel less engaging without the use of paddle shifters.
- Diesel Engine: The 1.5L diesel engine with a variable geometry turbo (VGT) feels more torquey but also slightly noisier, especially at lower revs. The 6-speed torque converter gearbox prioritizes efficiency, making it a solid choice for long highway drives
2024 Sonet provides a well-balanced ride, suitable for both city commutes and highway cruising. While the SUV maintains good straight-line stability, there is a minor downside when it comes to aggressive cornering.
Riding Aspect | Details |
---|---|
Suspension Setup | Soft suspension, absorbing bumps and potholes efficiently |
Steering Feedback | Light steering for easy city handling, but lacks feedback on sharp turns |
Ride Quality | Soft setup ensures a smooth ride over uneven surfaces, though the suspension may feel floaty at high speeds |
Handling | Good straight-line stability, but confidence slightly diminishes during sharp cornering |
The ride quality of the Sonet is impressive, thanks to its softer suspension setup. However, sharper corners at higher speeds may leave the driver wanting more in terms of handling feedback.
The interior of the Kia Sonet has seen several key updates, particularly aimed at improving passenger comfort, especially in the rear seats. Kia has also focused on enhancing the premium feel inside the cabin, especially in the GT-Line and X-Line variants.
Comfort Feature | Details |
---|---|
Seating | Power-adjustable driver seat in higher trims; extended under-thigh support for rear passengers |
Climate Control | Ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, and rear AC vents |
Space | Ample legroom for rear passengers, 385 liters of boot space remains unchanged |
Tech Comfort | 10.25-inch infotainment system with smart air purifier and rear privacy blinds |
The rear seats benefit from extended under-thigh support, making long journeys more comfortable for passengers, though taller individuals may still find it slightly cramped. Meanwhile, features like seat ventilation, an electric sunroof, and rear privacy blinds elevate the cabin’s comfort and luxury quotient.
2024 Sonet takes tech to the next level, particularly with the inclusion of Level 1 ADAS in the top variants. The SUV remains feature-loaded with connected car technology, wireless charging, and a host of driver assistance features.
Tech Feature | Details |
---|---|
Infotainment System | 10.25-inch touchscreen with Kia Connect featuring over 70 connected car features |
ADAS Features | Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Warning, 360-degree camera |
Driver Assistance | Level 1 ADAS includes Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Departure Warning |
Convenience Features | Wireless charging, smart air purifier, USB Type-C chargers in the rear, Hinglish voice commands |
The ADAS suite in the new Sonet includes up to 10 autonomous features, such as forward collision warning and high beam assist, offering safety and convenience usually found in higher-end vehicles.
Given the different engine configurations, the fuel efficiency of the Kia Sonet is competitive, offering a balance between power and economy.
Engine Variant | Fuel Efficiency (Approx.) |
---|---|
1.0L Turbo Petrol (DCT/iMT) | 17-18 km/l |
1.5L Diesel (Automatic) | 19-21 km/l |
The diesel variant naturally offers better fuel economy, especially in long-distance driving, whereas the turbo petrol variant is suited for those seeking a balance of performance and mileage.
Kia has left no stone unturned when it comes to safety in the 2024 Sonet, with a plethora of safety features now available even in the lower trims.
Safety Feature | Details |
---|---|
Standard Safety | 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, and vehicle stability management |
ADAS Safety | Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Attention Warning |
Seatbelt Reminders | 3-point seatbelts for all passengers with reminders |
With the addition of Level 1 ADAS, the Kia Sonet sets a new benchmark for safety in the subcompact SUV segmen
2024 Kia Sonet competes with several subcompact SUVs in the Indian market, including the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300.
Competitor | Comparison |
---|---|
Hyundai Venue | Shares the same platform, but the Sonet offers more features and ADAS at similar price points |
Tata Nexon | Offers better safety ratings but lacks the tech sophistication of the Sonet |
Mahindra XUV300 | More powerful engine options but fewer high-tech features than the Sonet |
While the Hyundai Venue offers similar underpinnings, the Sonet distinguishes itself with better tech and premium interiors. The Tata Nexon offers impressive safety, but the Sonet leads in terms of features and convenience
2024 Kia Sonet Facelift is undoubtedly a well-rounded package that builds on its predecessor’s strengths while introducing significant updates. Its bold design, premium features, enhanced safety, and the inclusion of ADAS make it a formidable contender in the subcompact SUV market. For buyers seeking a stylish, tech-loaded, and feature-rich SUV, the Kia Sonet should be a top choice.

Kia Sonet addresses almost every requirement of a buyer in Sub compact SUV segment . Great looks, good engines and transmission, descent interior space, superb interior quality, largest boot in segment, good ride and handling, and many first in segment features...some reviews on social media has complained of cramped rear seats space but I haven't found any issues .My height is more than 5'10 and after adjusting driver's seat according to my height there is enough legroom space for rear passenger of even more than 6 feet. Shoulder room for three large adults may be a little tight but acceptable keeping in view of competition. And you won't drive with full five adults always, what really matters is largest bootspace of 392 litres which is useful in family shopping and luggage placing for long tours. High ground clearance of 205 mm is really helpful in broken and hilly terrain and steering response is confident. What I personally feel is that ride quality is not plush or absorbing like Tata nexon but comparable to the rest of segment. My requirement was a silent and powerful fuel efficient diesel engine with good features and Sonet HTX manual diesel fulfilled that with added strong drivability. I have purchased car 2 weeks back and driven it for 900 Kms and I'm very happy with my decision..I will keep posting further pros and cons as I drive it more and more...for fuel efficient concerns it's giving me 18.1 kmpl even I hardly shift to fifth gear due to road conditions..

Been driving close to a month post purchase of HTX, the imt seems to be providing a mixed experience of automatic and a manual trans. The rear seat comfort comes at compromising the easier ride quality, the drive is real smooth and mileage will really be shocking as you maneuver in slow traffic ~6-7kmpl, but if you drive in the highway the actual mileage might be pretty satisfactory, I drove in a normal traffic without revving much, and I get close to 11-12kmpl, which is way less than their claim of 18kmpl. Sonet loses the 1 star just for that. Other than that the wait period (3 months) was a killer, but I would say it was worth the wait.

Stiff suspension and Tight rear space but Great fuel efficiency and Good engine
By Farooq Habib @ Sep 22, 2024 10:17 PM

The Kia Sonet delivers a strong punch in the subcompact crossover SUV segment. It’s feature-packed, with modern safety features like multiple airbags and tech-friendly interiors. The engine performance is lively, especially in the automatic variant. The fuel efficiency is great, but the suspension could feel a bit stiff on bumpy roads. Also, the rear space is slightly tight for taller passengers.

Awesome Car for Small Family.
By Randeep Sharma @ Sep 19, 2024 02:53 PM

Sonet has really impressed me with its style and safety features. The engine performance is great for a subcompact crossover SUV, and the automatic variant makes city driving very easy. Space inside is good for a small family, and the boot space can handle weekend luggage. The fuel efficiency is also a big advantage, and it has a low maintenance cost.
