A sand storm during the second half of the stage made things difficult for the riders in Stage 3 of the Afriquia Merzouga Rally. Sherco TVS rider Juan Pedrero is in fifth position overall, while Hero MotoSports rider C S Santosh retained 15th position.

Hero MotoSports rider CS Santosh finished Stage 2 in 15th position overall, while Sherco TVS riders Aravind KP and Abdul Wahid Tanveer finished in 33rd and 34th positions respectively, Sherco TVS rider Juan Pedrero finished in fourth position while Joaquim Rodrigues of Hero MotoSports Team Rally finished in 9th position.

Three Indians are competing in the Merzouga Rally - CS Santosh (Hero MotoSports Team Rally), Aravind KP (Sherco TVS) and Abdul Wahid Tanveer (Sherco TVS). Joaquim Rodrigues of Hero MotoSports Team Rally took fifth position at the end of Stage 1, while Juan Pedrero of Sherco TVS took seventh position

The 2017 Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez saw a duel between Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez in the final laps as Pedrosa secured his first win of the season. Meanwhile, Jorge Lorenzo finally took his first podium with Ducati, having struggled in the first three races.

Ace Indian rider CS Santosh is charged up for a much-anticipated comeback to rally racing at the Merzouga Rally which kicks off from May 7. Santosh had missed the Dakar Challenge event India Baja in April due to an injury. Leading the Hero MotoSports Team Rally challenge will be India Baja 2017 winner Joaquim Rodriques

Tanveer qualified for the Merzouga Rally after winning the Dakar Challenge, coming third at the India Baja organised in April 2017. The six-day Merzouga Rally is considered a stepping stone to the big one - the Dakar Rally. All the finishers at the Merzouga Rally will get the assurance of being able to enter the 2018 Dakar Rally.

Coming third at the India Baja held in April 2017, Abdul Wahid Tanveer will be the Sherco-TVS Factory Rally team's fourth rider at the Merzouga Rally. Tanveer won the Dakar Challenge to automatically qualify for the Merzouga Rally. He will be supported by Dakar riders Aravind KP, Juan Pedrero and Adrien Metge.
