Bajaj to Launch New Motorcycle on Feb 1

The new bike, as evident from recent spy shots, borrows design cues from the Avenger 150. But the bike will not have a cruiser-like look, and is expected to be a commuter bike. It is also expected to be launched under a new brand name which will co-exist with the Discover series in the executive segment.

Highlights

Bajaj Auto will be launching an all-new motorcycle on February 1, a communication from the company has said. The new bike is expected be an altogether new commuter brand which the Chakan-based motorcycle manufacturer has been quietly working on for some time now.

The new brand will co-exist with the current executive-commuter Discover series, but will offer a stylish and premium offering in the executive class.

Spy shots of the new bike have already emerged which show it borrowing design cues from the Avenger. The rear suspension, wheel and overall rear-end design is clearly influenced by the Avenger 150. The front forks are however not raked out like a cruiser and the footpeg position also seem to suggest that the new bike has been designed primarily for city riding.

The front suspension is conventional telescopic forks with a 17-inch front wheel and possibly a 240mm single disc at the front. At the rear is a 16-inch wheel with a 130mm drum brake. Rear suspension is handled by gas charged twin shocks. The bike is expected to be powered by a reworked 150cc single-cylinder engine making around 14-15bhp and mated to a five-speed gearbox.

In all, Bajaj is expected to launch three new motorcycles in 2016.
