Hero sold 6,33,884 two-wheelers in May 2017, compared to 5,83,117 two-wheelers sold in the same month last year.

Royal Enfield sold over 60,000 bikes in May 2017, with exports registering a healthy growth of over 49 per cent.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) Pvt Ltd sold over 5 lakh two-wheelers in May 2017. Honda's motorcycle sales posted robust 20 per cent growth. HMSI consolidated its position as the No. 2 brand in domestic motorcycle segment, with 1,47,431 units sold in May 2017, compared to 1,76,216 motorcycles sold in May 2016.

It was a mixed sales report for Tata Motors as the Indian auto giant recorded positive sales for its passenger vehicles, but its overall volumes dropped by 4 per cent to 38,361 vehicles in May 2017. Tata's domestic sales for commercial and passenger vehicles stood at 34,461 units, down by 3 per cent over 35,695 units sold in May 2016.

The month of May 2017 has been a slow one for four-wheeler sales. Most manufacturers have shown a positive growth in sales numbers but.the percentage growth has been slow. In some cases, the exports have decreased as well.

Maruti Suzuki has had another month of decent growth after its overall domestic sales for the month of May 2017 grew by 15.5 per cent. The company's maximum volumes came from the Utility Vehicle segment where the sales of the Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza saw a growth of 66 per cent over May 2016.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto is India's most popular car and the model certainly dominates the sales chart every month as the most selling car. However, once in a while, the Alto faces competition from its older siblings that manage to outsell the little hatchback and this time it is the Maruti Suzuki Swift that has sold more than the Alto.

Scooter sales in April 2017 contributed 35 per cent to overall two-wheeler sales, while 110 cc commuter motorcycle sales contributed 36 per cent. The growth in automatic scooter sales is led by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India
