The Compact SUV segment has always been one the most lucrative segments in India and that segment is set to get even hotter with the launch of new SUVs. One such SUV is the MG Hector with which the SIAC owned British brand will foray in our market. It was yesterday that MG had announced the name of its first SUV. The MG Hector has been named after the legendary British biplane used by the British Airforce in 1930s which was named after the Prince Hector of Troy. Some of Britain's largest and most storied manufacturers are making a last-ditch plea to lawmakers to avoid a disorderly retreat from the European Union with stark warnings of production grinding to a halt and political inertia hurting their business. Ultra-luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce said its factory in southern England risks being paralyzed in the event of a hard Brexit if just one component becomes unavailable because of border delays. At planemaker Airbus SE, which makes the wings for all its aircraft in the U.K., uncertainty about which sort of Brexit may happen has become "really unbearable" and costs for contingency planning and preparations have ballooned into the many millions, Chief Executive Officer Tom Enders said Wednesday night in London.

2018 has been the most successful year in Volkswagen's history as the German auto giant has announced record breaking sales of 6.24 million units growing at 0.2 per cent compared to the previous year. The growth was primarily driven by the SUVs which recorded an impressive growth of 38 per cent in 2018. In the same period, passenger cars segment witnessed a nominal growth of 0.2 per cent. The share of SUVs in the overall sales has increased to 19.2 per cent in 2018 from 13.9 per cent a year ago.

Porsche has set a new delivery record in 2018 selling 256,255 units globally growing at 4 per cent as compared to the previous year. Out of the models, Porsche Panamera recorded the highest sales at 38,443 units growing at 38 per cent. Even the iconic 911 clocked a double-digit growth of 10 per cent selling 35,573 units in the calendar year 2018. The Macan has also been the bestseller with 86,031 vehicles, just ahead of the Cayenne with 71,458 deliveries in 2018.

While the luxury car market in India is booming, not all luxury automakers seem to have it easy. While Mercedes-Benz and BMW have had a great run in 2018 in India, their arch-rival Audi has been hit by low sales volumes. Audi India sales dropped a significant 18 per cent in 2018 as compared to the previous year. Audi India's total sales figures in 2018 stood at 6,463 units as compared to 7,.876 units the year before. This was mainly due to the fact that Audi India has just one major launch in the whole year, the midsize luxury SUV Q5 as compared to the other automakers that brought in updates and refreshes across the board.

San Francisco, Jan 10 (IANS) Tesla will stop selling the lowest-range versions of its Model S sedans and Model X SUVs from Monday, the electric car maker's CEO Elon Musk said. "Starting on Monday, Tesla will no longer be taking orders for the 75 kWh version of the Model S & X," Musk revealed in a tweet on Wednesday, while asking people interested in buying those vehicles to place their orders latest by Sunday. Higher-end versions of the S and X, equipped with a 100 kWh battery, will still be made and sold by Tesla, but at a higher price, CNBC reported, adding that Tesla did not respond to inquires as to why the S and X offerings were pared back.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA might have been the entry level sedan/4-door coupe in the Mercedes-Benz lineup but it has been one of the prettiest cars on sale from the 3-pointed star. And now, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the second generation Mercedes-Benz CLA at the CES or Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The new CLA is larger than the outgoing model and surprisingly, even better looking too! Mercedes-Benz has retained its swooping body shape with the new car while the overall design language is very very similar to the larger and more premium Mercedes-Benz CLS 4-door coupe. The CLA will join the A-Class sedan in the lineup and will be priced slightly higher than the latter too.

India's largest carmaker- Maruti Suzuki has announced to increase the prices of select models by up to Rs. 10,000. The new prices will be effective from January 10, 2019 (today). The decision comes due to the impact of rising commodity prices and foreign exchange rates. The cyclical price revision happens at the start of every year and has become a norm in the auto industry. Recently, some of the major carmakers such as Hyundai, Tata Motors, Ford, Honda, Renault, Nissan, Toyota and BMW have also made price hike announcements citing similar reasons.
