It was Nico Rosberg who took pole position for the British Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton failed to deliver in qualifying on home turf. The weather changed during the hour-long qualifying session and Q3 saw drivers opt for slick tyres but losing a lot of time in the final sector as light rain fell.

Sebastian Vettel set the fastest lap during a wet final practice session for the British Grand Prix as neither Mercedes driver set a time but the FP2 session belonged to Mercedes. In FP3 however, both the Mercedes drivers remained in the pits and when they came out they managed to do just nine laps between them.

Nico Rosberg won the Austrian Grand Prix from team-mate Lewis Hamilton to extend his championship lead to 29 points. The Mercedes team had a strategy in place and that is the reason why though Rosberg started 3rd and Hamilton 9th, both the drivers saw themselves battling it out for the top spot yet again.

Yes you read that right, it's Massa on pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix as he beat the Mercedes drivers to it. This is the first time after 2008 that Massa has been on pole and we all know that he went on to win the race in Brazil.

As the final practice session went underway for the Austrian Grand Prix, it looked like the battle would still remain between Hamilton and Rosberg but the unlikely hero of this third session was Williams' Valtteri Bottas.
