MG Motor India, a fully owned subsidiary of SAIC Motor Corp. showcased its ERX5 electric SUV at the recently concluded MOVE: Global Mobility Summit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a look at the ERX5, which is the re-badged version of Roewe ERX5, which was first showcased in China more than a year ago. Roewe is another automotive brand under the SAIC Motor Corp Group of China. The ERX5 electric SUV has a reported range of 425 kilometres on a single charge and the car can be charged up to 80 per cent within 45-60 minutes, thanks to a fast charging system.

Clean and sustainable! These are the two words which will define mobility in the near future. Most automotive manufacturers and countries too have begun putting in efforts in the right earnest towards mobility which is electric/makes use of alternative fuel. The situation in India is a little different, though. While many countries have a proper roadmap made especially for electric vehicles, India is yet to get one. In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has categorically mentioned that the government will come out with a detailed and thorough EV policy and roadmap soon. However, the PM did not mention a timeline as to when the formal policy on EVs will be ready and put into action.

Bengaluru-based Ather Energy has finally announced the delivery date for its all-new electric scooter, Ather 450. The company has confirmed that the deliveries will commence this month, from September 11, and the first lot of the new 450 scooters are already rolling out of the production line.

PM Modi said that the future of mobility in India will be based on 7 key pillars or 'C's which are Common, Connected, Convenient, Congestion-Free, Charged, Clean and lastly, Cutting Edge.

India can cut its annual oil import bill by some Rs 1.2 lakh crore in the next five to seven years by switching its two-wheelers from internal combustion engine to electric, according to the NITI Aayog.

The company also displayed its other mobility innovations at MOVE 2018 which included the modular and scalable electric platform, MESMA, the demonstration of the software mobility solution, NEMO and futuristic muscle electric pod concept, UDO.

The facility is equipped with digital tools for manufacturing and field tracking. This centre, along with the eMobTech centre, located in IITM Research Park, will be generating and implementing all the Services and Solutions contracts that are related to eMobility, for Ashok Leyland.

Electric cars are the inevitable future of mobility across the world and in India. Maruti Suzuki, India's largest automaker has already announced plans for a battery plant in India that will start making Lithium Ion batteries from 2020 and now, Osamu Suzuki, Chairman, Suzuki Motor corporation has announced more detailed plans for EVs too. Maruti Suzuki will start testing 50 electric vehicles in India from next month onwards and will launch its first EV in India in 2020. The electric vehicle program for India will be run alongside and with help from Toyota Motor Corporation with which Maruti Suzuki has a vehicle sharing joint venture.
