Retaining its double-digit growth in overall volumes, Royal Enfield sold a total of 74,697 units in May 2018, growing by 23 per cent over 60,696 motorcycles sold during the same period last year. The Chennai-based bike maker's domestic sales stood at 72,510 units last month, which grew by 24 per cent, as opposed to 58,647 bikes sold during May 2017.

Hero MotoCorp despatched a total of over 7 lakh two-wheelers in May 2018, posting a growth of 11 per cent over the same month a year ago.

The domestic wholesales in the month of May reached 9,069 vehicles, up from 6,742 units, while exports grew to 17,119 vehicles compared to 16,761 units in May 2017.

he cumulative sales for the domestic market (April-May 2018) was at 107,806 units compared to 63,305 units over last year, a growth of 70 per cent.

The domestic sales stood at 43,818 vehicles during May 2018, up by 8 per cent. In the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles segment, M&M sold 1,152 vehicles for the month. Exports for May 2018 stood at 3,031 vehicles, with a high growth of 134 per cent.

Bajaj Auto sold 1,92,543 motorcycles in May 2018, compared to 1,56,523 motorcycles in the same month a year ago.

With petrol prices and diesel in India rising almost every single day and reaching new record highs, one would expect auto sales to slow down. In fact, auto sales in May 2018 have been on the increase with the likes of Maruti Suzuki and Toyota both showcasing growth in most segments. Car sales have also recently shown an upward trend due to the fact that many automakers are offering discounts on older models and variants while preparing for the salvo of new launches that are expected to come just in time for the looming festive season. Another trend that is noteworthy is the fact that Indian car buyers are moving more and more towards petrol cars as compared to diesel due to a smaller differential in fuel prices between these two fossil fuels.

India's largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki is showing no signs of slowing down. With over 50 per cent market share in India today, the automaker has showcased a huge improvement in sales in May 2018 as compared to the same month last year. Overall sales are up by 26 per cent as compared to the same time period last year with domestic sales up by 24.9 per cent and exports up by a whopping 48.1 per cent. The big growth was led by the compact segment which includes the likes of the Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire and the recently launched Swift. The segment was up by 50.8 per cent with sales figures of 77.263 units as compared to May 2017! The surge is being led of course by the thee hot sellers, the new Swift, the Dzire and the Baleno.
