Virgin Racing driver Robin Frijns has become the eighth different driver to win the eighth race of the 2018-19 Formula E championship. Frijns took his maiden Formula E win in the Paris e-Prix at the end of a chaotic day. The race conditions were challenging due to the heavy rain storm, which meant the race started under the safety car and made for an incident-ridden race. Coming in second was Andre Lotterer of Techeetah, while Daniel Abt of Audi Abt finished third. Mahindra Racing's Pascal Wehrlein and Jerome d'Ambrosio were penalised for the wrong tyre pressure and started at the back of the grid.

In a major lapse, a loose drain cover struck George Russell's Williams F1 car during the first practice session on Friday. The incident resulted in nearly destroying the Williams car, which is being rebuilt for the race this Sunday, while also opening an investigation into the matter by the FIA. In a statement, the FIA determined that a "break on an underside mounting" led to the drain coming loose.

One of the world's biggest motorsport events, the Dakar Rally has been confirmed to shift base to the Middle East and will be held in Saudi Arabia starting next year. The announcement marks the departure of the rally from South America after a decade, a home it found after three decades of discovering Africa. An official announcement along with the plan for the next year will be made on April 25, 2019, in Al-Qiddiya, near the Saudi capital of Riyadh.
