  • The Honda CBR250RR will be powered by a 250cc twin-cylinder motor
  • Western markets are expected to get a more power 350cc version
  • The Honda CBR250RR will be officially revealed later this year
Honda's Indonesian importer Astra Honda has released a teaser video of the CBR250RR, bringing the highly awaited motorcycle back into focus for enthusiasts globally. Based on the Light Weight Super Sport Concept showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, the CBR250RR will be Honda's answer to the tremendously grown quarter-litre segment and will compete with the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja 300, Yamaha YZF-R25/R3 and the likes. That said, Honda is expected to set the new benchmark in the segment with the CBR250RR.

The 16 second teaser gives a few glimpse of the Honda CBR250RR, while also confirming the '250RR' badging on the bike. The silhouette heavily resembles that of the Super Sport concept with the nose down-tail up design language and is complemented by sharp lines. We could also spot other interesting bits like the split seats, clip-on handlebars, Upside Down forks and ABS brakes with Nissin calipers. The teaser also more or less confirms the use of a twin exhaust end can on the 250RR, which will be confirmed once revealed. Though not visible in the teaser, the quarter-litre Honda will get LED split headlamps, similar to the ones shown on the concept.

In terms of power, the Hodna CBR250RR will be using a 250cc liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder motor that is expected to produce a shade under 40bhp of power and around 30Nm of torque. The motor will be paired to a 6-speed gearbox. Odds are the 250cc twin-cylinder version could be restricted for other Asian markets given the taxation policy based on engine displacement these countries; while a host of nations in the West could get an updated 350cc twin-cylinder unit with more power on tap.

The move will be similar to what Kawasaki and Yamaha have followed with their respective models, and allows owners to make the most out of the smaller displacement. Here's when things get interesting. If Honda chooses to bring the Honda CBR250RR to India, it is likely that we will get the higher capacity version considering the model will come as a CKD and will only be marginally expensive to import when compared to the 250cc version.

All said, details are still scarce on the launch date, prices or specifications of any kind. Nevertheless, the CBR250RR is back into focus and we can expect Honda to release more details in the coming weeks building up to the official reveal. Make sure to watch this space for more details.
