Honda 2Wheelers India Sells Over 5.5 Lakh Units In May 2018; Grows By 3%

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has been registering strong volumes since the beginning of the calendar year and sales in May were no different. The Japanese manufacturer registered a growth of 3 per cent in May 2018 with 551,601 two-wheelers sold, as against 537,035 units sold in May last year. During the previous month, Honda's domestic sales grew by 2 per cent with 519,072 units sold, as opposed to 510,381 units sold in May 2017. The company's scooter range continues to lead the charge in volumes with 354,211 units (domestic + exports) sold last month, a growth of nearly 2 per cent, over 347,703 units sold during the same period last year. Total motorcycle sales stood at 208,625, witnessing a hike of 10 per cent compared to 189,332 units sold over a year ago.

Honda's domestic two-wheeler sales grew by 2 per cent from 510,381 units in May 2017 to 5,19,072 units in May 2018. The two-wheeler maker's domestic motorcycle segment sales stood at 191,909 units, a growth of 8 per cent over 176,216 units sold in May last year. Honda registered a healthy jump in exports with 32,529 units shipped in May 2018, a hike  22 per cent from 26,654 units exported during the same month last year.

Speaking on the sales performance for FY 2018-19, HMSI - Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing, Yadvinder Singh Guleria said, "Honda continues its upward sales momentum in the fiscal 2018-19. In a period of just 2 months (April-May'18), more than 1 lac additional customers have joined the Honda family as compared to the same period last year."

Honda introduced the 2018 Dio scooter last month as its first offering for this financial year with styling upgrades and new features. Priced at Rs. 51,292 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the scooter now comes with a LED headlamp, new gold rims, digital instrument console with the three-step eco sped indicator and the 4-in-1 switch ignition lock system as well.

Honda also commenced exports of the Grazia 125 cc scooter to Nepal and Sri Lanka, while the X-Blade 160 cc motorcycle has also been confirmed to go on sale in the neighbouring countries. Honda has announced that it will be introducing 18 upgraded products this fiscal and one all-new product as well. The company also earmarked Rs. 800 crore to meet BS-VI emission regulations.
