Hero Electric will expand its production capacity at the Ludhiana plant by March 2022 as the company is witnessing a surge in demand for its electric two-wheeler range.

The high-speed electric scooter will be launched within the next two months, and will come with a range of over 175 km on a single charge.

Ola Electric has crossed Rs. 1,100 crore in combined sales for the two days that the purchase window was open for its electric scooter. The next purchase window will open on November 1, 2021.

This is the second major acquisition for TVS in Europe after Norton Motorcycles, and will target the sustainable personal mobility solutions segment with e-bikes.

The Okaya Freedum will be available with lithium-ion and lead-acid battery options and is currently offered as a slow-speed electric scooter, while a high-speed version will be launched later in the year.

The cabinet has finally approved a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme of nearly Rs. 26,000 crore for the auto sector. The scheme is mainly to boost manufacturing of electric and fuel cell vehicles. While OEMs are welcoming the move, industry experts believe this might not be enough.
