Auto Sales August 2022: Tata Passenger Vehicle Sales Grow 68% In India

- Tata reports cumulative sales growth of 41% year-on-year
- Passenger vehicle sales down by 339 units over July 2022
- EV sales down 4% month-on-month
Tata Motors reported a notable 68% year-on-year growth in passenger vehicle sales in the Indian market for the month of August 2022. The carmaker reported PV sales of 47,166 units, up from 28,018 units in the same period in 2021. Month-on-month, sales were flat with PV sales down by 0.7% over July 2022.
Tata’s range of combustion engine cars recorded sales of 43,321 units in the month, up 60% from 26,996 units in August last year. The carmaker’s electric vehicle sales grew a notable 276% though this was from a low base of 1,022 units in August 2021. EV sales stood at 3,845 units for August 2022. Compared to July 2022, sales of both internal combustion and EVs were marginally down by 0.37% and 4% respectively.
CV sales were up 12% in the domestic market though exports shrunk by 40% year-on-year
Moving to the commercial vehicle segments Tata reported a cumulative growth of just 6% year-on-year with sales of 31,492 units in August 2022 as against 29,781 units last year. Month-on-month overall CV figures saw a slight bump with the company having reported cumulative sales of 31,473 units in July 2022. Total domestic CV sales for August stood at 29,313 units, up 12% over the previous year while exports were down 40% year-on-year to 2,179 units from 3,609 units.
Cumulatively, Tata reported sales of 76,479 units for the month of August, up 41% over the same period last year.
