car&bike Expert Take

“The Kia EV6 is for buyers looking for a premium electric car with futuristic design, strong performance, and impressive range. Its dual-motor setup, fast charging capability and feature-rich cabin make long-distance EV driving far more practical. However, if rear seat comfort for taller passengers is a priority, the EV6 may not be the most accommodating choice.”

The Kia EV6 was the model that properly announced Kia’s electric ambitions in India when it arrived in 2022. With its futuristic styling, strong performance and premium cabin experience, it immediately stood out in the luxury EV space.
Recently, Kia introduced the first major facelift for the EV6. The biggest update is the larger 84 kWh battery pack, replacing the earlier 77 kWh unit and bringing a claimed range of over 650 km. Along with subtle design tweaks and a few interior updates, the facelift focuses on improving range and overall usability.
This Kia EV6 expert review brings together insights from Shamz Raza Naqvi of the updated EV6 in our detailed YouTube video, including its real-world range, highway efficiency and overall driving experience. We will also see how it compares with rivals like the BMW iX1 and the Mercedes-Benz EQA in the premium electric SUV space.

The Kia EV6 continues with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, but the headline update here is the larger battery pack. The previous 77 kWh unit has now been replaced by a new 84 kWh battery, which improves overall efficiency and driving range.

Powertrain Specifications Tested

The following table lists the key specifications of the Kia EV6 sold in India:

Battery PackPowerTorqueDrivetrain

Driving Experience: Real World
City Driving

In city conditions, we found the EV6 easy to drive and very smooth. Throttle response is progressive rather than aggressive, which makes it manageable in traffic. The regenerative braking system also helps reduce driver effort, especially in slow-moving traffic.

Highway Driving

The EV6 feels even more impressive on the highway. During our evaluation, we drove about 260 km in Eco mode with the AC running, and the car used roughly 52 per cent of the battery. Acceleration is strong, and overtaking requires very little effort thanks to the dual-motor setup.
As Shamz Raza Naqvi notes,
“Drive modes, regenerative braking, and driving style all play an important role in maximising range.”

The Kia EV6 facelift still looks futuristic, even three years after its launch in India. While the overall silhouette remains largely unchanged, the facelift introduces a few noticeable styling updates that sharpen the car’s appearance without altering its core design.

Here’s a summary of the EV6’s most noticeable design elements:

  • The redesigned headlights now feature a hook-shaped LED DRL signature.
  • A slim LED strip connects the headlights, giving the front a more tech-focused look.
  • The bumpers have been revised, which contributes to a slightly sportier stance.
  • From the side, the coupe-like roofline and flush door handles continue to define the EV6’s design.
  • New 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels add a fresh visual touch
  • At the rear, subtle tweaks to the LED light bar and bumper detailing add a bit more polish.

Overall, the design still turns heads. The EV6 facelift in India is offered only in the GT-Line trim, so buyers get the full sporty styling package as standard.

Kia EV6 vs BMW iX1 vs Mercedes-Benz EQA Dimensions

The EV6 is also the largest car here in terms of length and wheelbase. At 4,695 mm long with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, it is bigger than both the BMW iX1 and Mercedes-Benz EQA. This helps it offer a stronger road presence and better cabin space, while its wider stance also contributes to stability on the road.

The Kia EV6 facelift keeps the same futuristic silhouette but introduces a few subtle updates that sharpen its overall look. The changes are not dramatic at first glance, but you will notice that the EV6 appears more modern and slightly sportier than before.
As Shamz observes,
“Electric vehicles and long journeys still don’t go hand in hand for many car owners in India, but things are slowly changing with better highway charging infrastructure and improved battery range.”

Front Profile

The facelift brings redesigned headlights with a sharper LED DRL signature that gives the EV6 a more aggressive face. A slim LED light strip connects the headlights across the front, making the nose look cleaner and more high-tech. The bumper has also been reworked, which adds a slightly sportier stance to the overall design.

Side Profile

From the side, the EV6 still looks distinctive thanks to its coupe-like roofline and long wheelbase proportions. Flush door handles maintain the clean body surface, while the new 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels add a bit of freshness.

Rear Profile

At the rear, the EV6 keeps its signature LED light bar stretching across the tailgate. Small tweaks to the bumper and lighting details add a bit more visual polish. Overall, the rear design still looks modern and wide, reinforcing the EV6’s sporty character.

The cabin of the Kia EV6 continues to feel modern and premium. The overall layout remains familiar, but Kia has made small changes that improve usability and give the interior a fresher feel. Material quality is a clear highlight here. Most touchpoints feel solid and well-finished, and the cabin design still manages to look futuristic without becoming complicated.

Cabin Layout and Quality

The dashboard is dominated by a pair of 12.3-inch displays integrated into a single curved panel. The dashboard also gets updated textures, while the new three-spoke steering wheel replaces the earlier two-spoke unit. Overall fit and finish remain impressive, and the EV6 easily holds its own against similarly priced rivals in terms of perceived quality.

Seating Comfort
First Row

The front seats are firm yet supportive, making them comfortable for long drives. They also get heating, ventilation, and Kia’s zero-gravity mode. When the car is stationary, the seats can recline almost like a lounge chair, which is useful during charging stops. We also found the driving position to be excellent, with ample seat and steering adjustments, while visibility remains good despite the EV6’s low stance.

Second Row

Rear seat space is generous in terms of width, knee room and headroom. The backrest can recline slightly, which improves comfort on longer journeys. However, the battery pack under the floor means passengers sit in a slightly knees-up position. This reduces under-thigh support, especially for taller occupants, and we noticed it can become a bit uncomfortable over longer distances.

Kia has taken a simple approach with the EV6 in India. Instead of offering multiple trims, the company sells it in a single fully loaded GT-Line AWD variant. The car comes with the full set of features, performance hardware and safety tech.
The EV6 is positioned as a premium electric offering. Being brought to India as a CBU import contributes to the higher price tag, though the car justifies it with strong performance, advanced technology and a large battery pack. We have listed the Kia EV6’s variant-wise pricing in the Indian market.

For many Indian buyers considering an electric car, range continues to be the biggest concern. The updated EV6 addresses this with a larger 84 kWh battery pack, replacing the earlier 77 kWh unit. The result is a claimed range of around 650 km, which puts it among the longest-range EVs currently on sale in India.
Here’s what we found during our evaluation:

  • The EV6 offers a claimed range of 663 km on a full charge.
  • Driving in Eco mode with the AC on, we covered about 260 km while using roughly 52% of the battery.
  • After travelling around 485 km, the battery still had about 10% charge remaining, suggesting a real-world range of roughly 550 km.

As Shamz Raza Naqvi explains,
“Drive modes, regenerative braking, and driving style all play an important role in maximising range.”

The Kia EV6 comes with a comprehensive set of safety features:

Passive Safety and Crash Protection

The EV6 gets eight airbags as standard, providing protection for the driver, front passenger, and side occupants. The cabin structure feels solid and well-engineered, which helps the car feel reassuring at highway speeds. Basic safety essentials like ABS with EBD are also included as standard equipment. The overall build quality feels robust, and during our evaluation, the EV6 maintained a stable and confidence-inspiring feel at higher highway speeds over long distances.

Active Safety and Stability Systems

The EV6 comes with a 360-degree camera system that makes parking in tight spaces much easier. In addition, the car features a Level-2 ADAS suite that includes systems such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and lane keep assist. During our evaluation, we found these systems to be well-calibrated for Indian driving conditions.

Safety Verdict

The Kia EV6 facelift has not yet been tested by any NCAP crash-test authority. But with eight airbags, a full suite of electronic stability systems, and Level-2 ADAS technology, the EV6 feels like a thoroughly well-equipped and premium electric car.

The Kia EV6 remains a tech-focused electric vehicle, and the facelift improves usability with updated displays, connectivity, and comfort features inside the cabin.

Infotainment and Interface

  • The EV6 uses a curved display setup housing two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system.
  • Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now supported, which makes daily connectivity simpler.
  • The head-up display projects key information like speed and navigation directly in the driver’s line of sight.
  • The 14-speaker Meridian sound system delivers clear and immersive audio quality.

Cabin Convenience and Practical Tech

  • Front seats get heating, ventilation and a zero-gravity recline mode that allows them to lie back when the car is stationary.
  • The EV6 offers wireless phone charging, multiple USB Type-C ports, and voice commands for key controls.
  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology allows the car to power external devices using its battery.
Laptops, cameras and small appliances can be plugged directly into the car when needed.
  • The Kia EV6 offers practical storage for a premium electric crossover.
  • The main boot provides 520 litres of space, which is enough for typical weekend luggage.
  • It can accommodate a small, medium and large trolley bag, along with a few soft bags.
  • The rear seats have a 60:40 split-folding function to expand cargo space when needed.
  • There is also a 20-litre frunk under the bonnet for storing charging cables or small items.
  • The boot floor is slightly shallow, so packing bulky luggage may require some planning.

The Kia EV6 balances comfort and performance quite well. It is not a hard-edged sports EV, but it still feels confident and composed in most driving situations.

City Driving

In the city, the Kia EV6 feels easy to drive. We found the throttle response progressive, which works well in slow traffic. The steering is light and this makes the large EV easy to manoeuvre. Despite the 19-inch wheels, the suspension handles bumps well. Multiple levels of regenerative braking also help in stop-and-go traffic, especially when using single-pedal driving.

Highway Driving

On the highway, the EV6 feels stable and planted. The suspension settles well at higher speeds, and the car remains composed even during quick lane changes. With its dual-motor AWD setup producing 320 bhp and 605 Nm, overtakes happen quickly and without much effort.

Shamz Raza Naqvi observes,
“With dual motors and a large battery pack, acceleration in the EV6 is very quick and enjoyable.”

In India, the Kia EV6 facelift follows a simple approach. Instead of offering multiple trims, Kia sells it in one fully loaded variant that includes all the major features, performance hardware and safety systems.
GT-Line AWD: This single variant combines the dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with the larger 84 kWh battery pack, premium cabin features and advanced safety technologies.

Take a look at what the Kia EV6 variant offers:

VariantBattery & DrivetrainKey AdditionsBest Suited For
GT-Line AWD84 kWh battery, Dual-motor AWD663 km range, 321 bhp, Level-2 ADAS, heads-up display, panoramic sunroof, Meridian sound systemBuyers looking for a premium electric SUV with strong performance and long driving range

The Essentials That You Don't Get

  • No multiple variants to choose from
  • No lighter interior colour option
  • No window blinds for rear passengers

Since the Kia EV6 is offered in India in just one fully loaded GT-Line AWD variant, the buying decision is fairly simple. In our evaluation, the EV6 stands out for three key reasons:

  • Strong performance: The dual-motor AWD setup produces 321 bhp and 605 Nm, delivering quick acceleration and effortless overtakes.
  • Excellent range: With a claimed range of 663 km, we found the EV6 capable of delivering close to 550 km in real-world conditions on a full charge.
  • Feature-rich cabin: The car comes equipped with twin 12.3-inch displays, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a head-up display, Meridian sound system, heated and ventilated seats, and a full Level-2 ADAS suite.

If you’re looking for a premium electric car that combines performance, long driving range and a tech-heavy cabin, the Kia EV6 makes a strong case for itself.

The premium electric SUV space in India may still be small, but the Kia EV6 faces strong competition from established luxury brands. Two of the closest rivals are the BMW iX1 and the Mercedes-Benz EQA. While the EV6 focuses on a futuristic design, strong performance and long range, these rivals offer the appeal of traditional luxury badges.

We evaluated how the EV6 compares with these alternatives in terms of battery capacity, range and performance to see where it stands.

ModelBattery CapacityARAI RangePower OutputEx-Showroom Price
Kia EV684 kWh663 km321 bhpRs. 65.97 Lakh
BMW iX166.4 kWh531 km204 bhpRs. 50.90 Lakh
Mercedes-Benz EQA70.5 kWh560 km188 bhpRs. 67.20 Lakh

Which Electric SUV Should You Choose?

  • Choose the Kia EV6 if you want stronger performance, a larger battery pack and one of the longest driving ranges in this segment.
  • Choose the BMW iX1 if you want a relatively more affordable luxury electric SUV from a well-known German brand.
  • Choose the Mercedes-Benz EQA if you prefer the appeal of the Mercedes badge along with a premium electric driving experience.

Pros

  • Strong dual-motor AWD performance
  • Large 84 kWh battery with impressive range
  • Premium, feature-rich cabin with ADAS and twin displays
  • Ultra-fast 350 kW DC charging support

Cons

  • Rear seat comfort could be better for taller passengers
  • Boot design is shallow for bulky luggage
  • Expensive due to the CBU import

Verdict

The Kia EV6 facelift builds on an already strong foundation. The larger 84 kWh battery improves range and makes long-distance driving far more practical, while the dual-motor AWD setup delivers quick performance and confident highway capability. During our evaluation, the EV6 also impressed with its quiet cabin and premium feature set.

Rear seat comfort and the shallow boot design could be better, and the price remains high because it is a CBU import. Still, if you want a premium electric car that offers strong performance, modern technology, and genuinely usable range, the Kia EV6 remains a compelling option.

Shamz concludes,

“Electric vehicles and long journeys still don’t go hand in hand for many car owners in India, but things are slowly changing with better highway charging infrastructure and improved battery range.”
