It's been a year worth remembering in the motorsport industry and that's because there's a lot happening. While some things remain unchanged like the F1 Champion is still a Mercedes driver (a different one though), there was good news when we heard that Michael Schumacher's health is improving. It was a mix bag though as there have been ups and downs and some of them have even thrown in a whole bunch of surprises but still there are some events which were the highlight of 2016. Well, we bring you the top 10 events from the world of motorsport.

After bringing to you Nico 'The Hulk' Hulkenberg last week, we bring to you Sergio 'Checo' Perez this week. Mumbai-based driver Jehan Daruvala has confirmed his participation in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The Sahara Force India Academy racer has joined team Carlin for the 2017 season and takes another step, as he aims to drive in the coveted Formula One series one day.

It proved to be a moment of joy for Gurmeet Virdi and Kirpal Singh Tung as they fought off solid competition to win the 'under 3,050cc diesel' category. The team went to finish the Grand Final stage of the main RFC event in Malaysia, being the first ever Indians in doing so.

Mercedes has accepted that Fernando Alonso can be considered as the driver to take up Nico Rosberg's position in the Formula One team. However, with the Spygate scandal having soured Alonso and Mercedes' relationship in the past, it needs to be seen if the team will be able move past the scandal and start afresh with Alonso racing alongside Hamilton.

In a shocker to the motorsport world and fans alike, the newest Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg has announced his retirement from the sport with immediate effect. Speaking at the of Friday's FIA prize giving gala, Rosberg said, "I want to take the opportunity to announce that I have decided to end my Formula 1 career in this moment here."

The 2016 season of Formula One has just about ended and we've all seen Nico Rosberg being crowned as World Champion and yes we'll have to wait till the last week of March for the next season of this racing championship. But there's good news as the official calendar for the 2017 F1 season is already out and well, there are a few changes made in this one.

The provisional calendar for the 2017 World Superbike Championship has been announced and is all set to commence at Phillip Island, Australia from February 24. The new season will also see a change in its schedule compared to this year with Jerez and Sepang being dropped from the calendar and Portimao being added. The organisers are yet to announce the track for WSBK's penultimate round.
