Bangalore-based Ather Energy has discontinued its entry-level 340 electric scooter. The company took to its social media channels to announce the development and the scooter has also been delisted from the company's website as well. Explaining the decision, the manufacturer said that the Ather 340 had dismal demand over the flagship 450. The latter grabbed 99 per cent of the orders despite the high pricing. Post the GST reduction in August this year, the Ather 340 was priced at Rs. 1.02 lakh, while the Ather 450 retails at Rs. 1.13 lakh (all prices, on-road Bangalore).

Encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the state, the government of Tamil Nadu has announced the Electric Vehicle Policy draft with a number of recommendations and changes for the EV sector. The big takeaway from the announcement will be the 100 per cent exemption on registration fees for EVs until the end of 2022. According to the policy draft, the state government plans to become a centre for the EV ecosystem, not just in demand but manufacturing as well. The draft proposes a number of incentives to industries and buyers in a bid as it plans to attract Rs. 50,000 crore of investment in EV manufacturing and creation of over 1.5 lakh new jobs. India's Blacksmith Electric has unveiled a new electric scooter prototype, called the Blacksmith B3, with a claimed top speed of 120 kmph.

Pune-based Polarity Smart Bikes will be introducing its pedal-assisted electric bike range in India on September 20, 2019. The new e-mobility start-up has already teased its line-up of products across two categories - Sport and Executive and includes the S1K, S2K, and the S3K, as well as the E1K, E2K and the E3K in the brand's product portfolio. The e-bikes are aimed to offer intra-city mobility with last mile connectivity, free of emissions. The bikes have been under development since 2017 and will be light in weight.

Gurugram-based Okinawa Autotech has introduced the new PraisePro electric scooter in the country, positioned below the flagship iPraise in the company's stable. The new Okinawa PraisePro is priced at Rs. 71,990 (ex-showroom, India), which makes it substantially cheaper than the flagship offering and more affordable in comparison. The manufacturer says that the PraisePro e-scooter promises a low running cost of 20 paise/km, which makes it substantially cheaper to run than a conventional ICE scooter. The new offering will lock horns against a number of 125 cc scooters including the Honda Grazia, TVS NTorq 125, Suzuki Access 125 and the likes.

The Evolet Hawk will be the full-faired electric sportbike from Rissala Electric Motors, a new start-up in the electric mobility space. The Evolet Hawk is expected to be launched sometime in the first half of 2020.
