Volkswagen's Electric Cars In Trouble Over Cancer Causing Materials
As if the huge Dieselgate scandal wasn't damaging enough for Volkswagen as an automaker, the German car maker might soon find itself embroiled in yet another scandal. And this time, it is for its electric cars! According to reports, Volkswagen, following a ruling by the German federal Motor Transport Authority, might have to recall close to 1.25 lakh electric and plug in hybrid cars due to a small amount of cancer causing 'Cadmium' which is present in the cars. According to the patent, the new system has a feature or a material that will insulate battery cells from heat generated by surrounding battery cells. The material used will most likely be some sort of new age polymer. The system will also have cooled plates or 'heat pipes' that will help remove the heat generated from battery cells in general and also that generated from damaged battery cells. Other tech will involve air gaps between cells for cooling, a sleeve that will hold the system in place and a feature that will help direct hot gasses discharging from a damaged cell in a particular direction away from other working cells.

The finance ministry is likely to approve a subsidy outlay of nearly Rs. 4,000 crore for the second phase of FAME India.
