What isn't Covered by the Manufacturer's Warranty?

It would be best to consider several expenses before you go out and buy a car for yourself. The price of a new car is just the tip of the iceberg, and there are other expenses like insurance, registration charges, and additional maintenance costs.

Highlights

  • Owning a car comes with several expenses
  • Expenses are much more than just the purchase price
  • Understand the expenses before buying a car

In such a scenario, the manufacturer's warranty is beneficial. It will save a lot of expenses that might occur during the warranty duration. Generally, the warranty includes the rear wheel, front wheel, corrosion, drive system, transmission, engine, and transaxle. Additionally, the warranty also covers your car bumper to bumper. Some warranties might also offer emission warranties and roadside assistance.

What isn't covered by the manufacturer's warranty?

Although the manufacturer's warranty offers several perks, there are still many things that the warranty does not cover. These are:

Vehicle Misuse

You should only use the car for the purposes that it was designed for. The manufacturer expects this from you as a car owner. The cars are produced for regular travel in favourable conditions. If you use your car in unfavourable conditions, such as towing or competitive racing, the warranty will not cover the damage caused by it.

Not Following the Owner's Manual

The owner's manual contains certain guidelines for car usage that the manufacturer expects you to follow. If you do not follow these guidelines and there is any damage caused due to negligence following the guidelines, then the warranty will not cover your expenses.

Odometer Mishandling

The warranties cover the actual mileage from the time of purchase. If you tamper or alter your odometer, the manufacturer can refuse to cover the expenses under warranty.

Consequential or Incidental Loss:

The warranty will not cover any incidental or consequential loss that occurs because of the vehicle's loss, inconvenience, or commercial loss.

Salvage

If you declare a total loss and sell your car for salvage, the manufacturer's warranty will cease on your vehicle.

Calamity or Attack Damage

If your car is damaged because of an accident, flood, towing, theft, fire, vandalism, or any natural calamity, then the loss will not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

Wear and tear

The manufacturer's warranty does not cover any damage that occurs due to normal wear and tear. It also does not cover damages such as dings, scratches, chips, and dents.

Motorsport Damage

If you damage your vehicle in a motorsport event or through competitive racing, then the loss that occurs will not be covered under the warranty.

Modifications that are unauthorized

When you modify your car, there is a possibility that you use unapproved, cheap-quality parts, which can damage your vehicle. This is because these parts are not compatible with the vehicle and cause damage to your car. The manufacturer's warranty does not cover such damages.

Physical and cosmetic damage

Before any damage claim, the manufacturer will gauge the cause of the damage. Physical damage such as a belt or seat that malfunctions can be fixed or replaced. However, damages that are cosmetic, such as discolorations and scratches, are not covered in the warranty. If you damage your seat belt by mishandling, the warranty will not cover it.

Some manufacturers also do not cover damages that happen at or due to car washes.
