Highlights

  • The Tata Tiago NRG facelift will go on sale on August 4, 2021
  • The Tata Tiago NRG facelift will get cosmetic updates & new features too
  • The NRG will also get body cladding, roof rails & raised ground clearance

Tata Motors has shared a block your date invite with the media for August 4, 2021. The company says a "tough and sporty avatar of something which is seriously fun" will arrive on the said date. And we reckon, this is the Tata Tiago NRG making a comeback in the facelifted avatar. To refresh your memory, the Tiago NRG was sold between 2018 and 2020 as a butch, crossover model based on Tata's entry-level offering. However, when the Tiago facelift arrived in early 2020, the company silently dropped the Tiago NRG from its line-up.

The new Tata Tiago NRG facelift will be based on the Tiago facelift that went on sale last year

Nevertheless, the model is ready to grace the showroom floors it seems and we expect the Tiago NRG facelift to get a fair bit of kit over the older version. At the outset, the model will get the new front look from the Tiago with the sharper grille and headlamps, revised bumper, and new 14-inch alloy wheels. That said, expect to see body cladding on the lower section, along with beefier bumpers at the front and rear with faux skid plates. The tailgate will also get the rugged black cladding with the NRG badge. The ground clearance is likely to go up to 200-205 mm, from the standard 170 mm. Also expect to see roof rails on the model.

Inside, the Tata Tiago NRG facelift is expected to come with an all-black cabin and will come with contrast accents on the AC air vent bezels, gearshift knob, and the centre console. It will also pack more features than the pre-facelift model including a new touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, Harman sound system and more. Safety equipment will include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and more.

The pre-facelift Tata Tiago NRG went on sale in September 2018 and was pulled off shelves in January 2020 with the arrival of the Tiago facelift

With the 1.05-litre diesel engine dropped from the Tiago range, the 2021 Tata Tiago NRG facelift will be powered by only the 1.2-litre petrol engine that develops 84 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. The motor is paired with a 5-speed manual and AMT unit, both of which could be offered on the new NRG. The new Tiago NRG facelift will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X, and the Ford Freestyle. Prices are likely to begin from Rs. 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.
