Tata Tiago Facelift Spied Testing For The First Time

The Tata Tiago was launched in 2016 and was a turnaround product for the automaker in the passenger vehicles segment. The hatchback has been a strong seller over the past two years and received some tinkering from Tata Motors time and again. However, the manufacturer is now looking at a comprehensive upgrade to the Tiago and the family version of the model was spotted testing for the first time. While the camouflaged test mule reveals little about the changes, expect to see a host of them with the facelift likely to arrive sometime later this year.

Expect the Tata Tiago facelift to get subtle changes to the exterior and interior, albeit bringing a refreshing look to the car. Styling changes are likely to be on the lines of the new Tata Tigor and Tiago JTP versions including new headlamps and taillights with revised front and rear bumpers, and tweaks to the grille. The alloy wheel design remains the same on the camouflaged test mule, but we would like to see Tata experiment with new designs on the facelifted model. That said, the automaker did introduce new diamond-cut alloy wheels on the recently launched new range-topping XZ+ trim.

The big change though could come to the features department on the Tata Tiago facelift. The hatchback could get a new and larger touchscreen infotainment system that will offer both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. A big update should come on the safety department as well with the driver and passenger side airbags to be offered as standard across all variants, along with reverse parking sensors, speed sensing door auto lock, high speed alert and seatbelt reminder, all of which are necessary to comply with the new safety regulations on vehicles.

Engine options will remain the same on the Tata Tiago facelift including the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine with 84 bhp at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm of peak torque at 3500 rpm. Diesel power comes from the 1.05-litre three-cylinder oil burner that belts out 68 bhp at 4000 rpm and 140 Nm of peak torque available between 1800-3000 rpm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and AMT units available with either engine. The Tiago JTP uses the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 112 bhp and 150 Nm of peak torque.

The Tata Tiago averages about 7500 units every month and was also one of the top-selling vehicles of 2018. It's not clear as to when Tata Motors will be introducing the facelifted model in the country. There are no official launch details available yet on the Tiago facelift, but reports suggest that the model could arrive sometime in the first half of 2019. The second half of the year could see the Tata 45X concept-based premium hatchback arrive in showrooms.
