Tata Motors Files 125 Patents In Last Financial Year

Tata Motors on Friday announced that it had filed 125 patents in the last financial year, the highest in the company's history. The company said that the patents filed covered a diverse range of “innovations & developments” in fields including conventional and alternative powertrains, vehicle safety, connected car tech and more.

Commenting on the announcement, Rajendra Petkar, President & CTO, Tata Motors said, “We have established a legacy of setting new benchmarks with cutting-edge technologies and features in the areas of new energy solutions, safety, product performance, cost of ownership and digitalization. An enabling culture and ecosystem to foster innovation amongst our workforce and the drive to keep challenging the status quo in pursuit of excellence has been the key to delivery. We remain committed to use our engineering prowess in creating top class mobility solutions to serve the evolving aspirations of our customers.”

The company also announced that it had received a grant of 56 patents during the same period.

Tata iterated that it had a rich history of pioneering technology and engineering solutions and was consistently investing in new technologies which had played a role in the company offering several “innovations” over the years in its cars. “These innovations are cherished by the customers leading to improved market shares and have since become industry benchmarks,” the company said in a statement.

While the company did not go into the “innovations” it certainly had a strong showing in the last financial year. The company recorded its highest-ever annual passenger vehicle sales in FY 2022 posting a growth of 67 per cent over the previous financial year. The strong performance has carried over into the current financial year as well with the company selling over 40,000 passenger vehicles in April 2022.

The company has in recent years also had a notable shift towards electric mobility with developments in both the passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle space. The company recently unveiled the all-electric Tata Ace EV, launched the long range Nexon EV Max along with revealing two concepts previewing future models and the next-generation of its Ziptron EV powertrain.
