The Tata Altroz was introduced in the Indian market by early 2020. It marked the Indian carmaker's first outing in the premium hatchback space. It is the first car to be based on the ALFA modular platform. The company recently launched the dark edition of the Altroz in India which is priced at Rs. 8.71 lakh (ex-showroom). The premium hatchback comes with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. It includes a 1.2-litre 83 bhp Revotron petrol, a 1.2-litre 108 bhp turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre 98 bhp Revotorq diesel. The car is priced between Rs. 5.75 lakh and Rs. 9.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Here are its top five rivals.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno:

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is one of the reliable and feature-loaded cars that has created a mark for itself in the Indian market. It's one of the best-selling cars in the segment from the Indo-Japanese automaker. The Baleno is a petrol-only car, which is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that comes in two iterations - VVT and Dual VVT. While the former is good for 82 bhp, the latter makes around 89 bhp. The car is priced in between Rs. 5.98 lakh to Rs. 9.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Hyundai i20:

The all-new Hyundai i20 is bolder and sportier than before. The third-generation model comes with a host of new features along with a bunch of segment-firsts. The premium hatchback shares its mechanicals with the Venue subcompact SUV, which includes a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel. The premium hatchback is priced in the range of Rs. 6.85 lakh to Rs. 11.34 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Volkswagen Polo:

The Volkswagen Polo is another practicable option to consider if you are looking for a car that offers great drivability and performance. The Polo is available with a 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine. The motor is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed automatic torque converter unit. The car is priced in the range of Rs. 6.15 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Toyota Glanza:

The Toyota Glanza is essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Unlike Baleno, the car is available in just two grades - G and V. It is priced in the range of Rs. 8.54 Lakh to Rs. 9.30 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Like the Maruti Baleno, the Glanza is also a petrol-only car and borrows mechanicals from the Baleno.

Honda Jazz:

The updated Honda Jazz was launched in India last year in August. It received gets significant design updates along with a new BS6 compliant petrol engine. The car is available in three variants - V, VX and ZX. Prices for the Jazz start at Rs. 7.55 lakh going all the way up to Rs. 9.79 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). Like Baleno and Polo, the Jazz is also a petrol-only model. It is powered by a 1.2-litre 89 bhp VTEC petrol engine. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard along with an optional CVT gearbox.
