Highlights

First unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018, the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 is scheduled to be launched in India on July 19, 2018, and will mark the Japanese manufacturer's third offering in the 125 cc scooter segment. The company previously sold the Swish in this space, while the Suzuki Access continues to be the segment leader in terms of volumes. However, the Burgman Street 125 is a completely new and a very different offering from the current crop of 125 cc scooters on sale and will be the first maxi-styled scooter in the segment. The scooter shares its underpinnings with the Access, and borrows severals components from the Gixxer as well. The scooter is expected to be priced at a premium over competition. With the pricing under wraps, here's what we think the upcoming Suzuki Burgman Street 125 will command in terms of pricing.

The Suzuki Burgman Street 125 will take on the Honda Grazia, TVS NTorq, Aprilia SR 125 and the likes. Prices are expected to be between Rs. 65,000-69,000 (ex-showroom) for the scooter, which makes it slightly more expensive than the competition. For the premium though, the Burgman will be sporting a host of features to differentiate it more effectively against its rivals.

The design is inspired from th bigger Burgman 650 on the new 125 cc offering, and the scooter sports a full body with the large apron up front coupled with tall windscreen. The apron also integrates the turn indicators while the scooter gets a full-LED headlamp with LED daytime running lights. The Suzuki Burgman Street 125 also comes with a step-up style seat and a full-LCD instrument cluster that displays a host of information including the speed, odometer, clock, fuel range and oil change indicator. While that certainly looks sporty and engaging even, it still misses out on a host of information when compared to the TVS NTorq.

The large body-shell also makes for larger alloy wheels and a front disc brake on the Suzuki Burgman Street 125, while the exhaust muffler has been designed to give a sporty appeal. Power on the scooter comes from the same 124 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine shared with the Access 125. The motor is tuned for 8.6 bhp and 10.2 Nm of peak torque, while paired with a CVT unit. The maxi-scooter also comes with Combined Braking System (CBS), which was recently made standard on the Access as well.

With so much action in the 125 cc segment, the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 has lot of work cut out for itself. For Suzuki too, the maxi-scooter is a brave take in a category that largely thrives upon conventionally designed offerings that assure volumes. It will be interesting to see then how the Suzuki Burgman Street is accepted by customers and the pricing will indeed play a key role in the same.
