Suzuki Motorcycle India has had an optimistic start to the 2019-20 financial year. The Japanese two-wheeler make registered a growth of 9.25 per cent for the month of April 2019 with 57,072 units sold in the domestic market, as opposed to 52,237 units sold during the same month last year. With respect to total sales (domestic+exports) for the month, the company recorded a growth 65,942 units last month,a hike of 12,57 per cent, as opposed to 58,577 units sold during April 2018. The rise in volumes come at a time when the Indian auto industry has been struggling to make attract volumes, especially with the ongoing election season.

The company plans to bring more cars to India in 2019. In fact the company had already announced that there would be 6 new models in three years starting 2018.

Maruti Suzuki, which commands over half of the market share in the Indian car market has seen a significant impact on the overall passenger vehicle sales since the beginning of 2019. Maruti's sales have remained under pressure since the beginning of the year and in April it witnessed a drastic decline of 19.6 per cent in the domestic market selling 133,704 units against164,978 units which were sold in the same period last year.

Passenger Vehicles sales of India's largest carmaker continued to remain under pressure in the new financial year. Maruti Suzuki has recorded a slump of 19.6 per cent in volumes in April 2019 selling 133,704 units against 164,978 units in the same month last year. Company's sales performance from April will also include the units sold to Toyota in reference to the alliance. 364 units of the Baleno premium hatchback were supplied to Toyota in April.

The deadline for manufacturers to meet the new BS6 emission regulations is set for March 31, 2020, and the big challenge for manufacturers and dealers will be to clear off the existing inventory of BS4 vehicles before the stipulated date. Citing concerns over unsold inventory, Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava said that manufacturers and dealers will have to work together to sell and register diesel cars before April 1 next year. The Maruti boss was speaking at a press conference for announcing Q4 financial year results.

The company has sold over 2.56 lakh cumulatively since its launch in 2014. The top end variant of Ciaz contributes to 48 per cent of the total sales, while Ciaz's signature colour Nexa Blue is the preferred choice with over 31 per cent customers opting for it.

The two-wheeler sector is a highly competitive one in India and it has been erstwhile Hero MotoCorp and Honda 2Wheelers leading at the front in terms of sheer volumes. While Hero's lead remains undisputed, sales for March 2019 saw a twist with TVS Motor Company outselling Honda for the month. The Hosur-based company became the second best-selling manufacturer in March this year with 247,710 units sold, as against Honda's 222,325 units sold during the same period. The margin is a healthy 25,385 units between the companies.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has become the latest model from the Indo-Japanese carmaker's line up to cross the 1 lakh sales milestone in one year.
