Highlights

  • Royal Enfield Scram is a new variant based on the Himalayan
  • The Royal Enfield Scram will be more affordable than the Himalayan
  • New RE Scram will be a road-oriented touring model of the Himalayan

Royal Enfield's upcoming new motorcycle, the Royal Enfield Scram has been spotted on test in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. From the looks of the test bike, it appears to be an advanced prototype and almost production-ready, so Royal Enfield may be getting ready to launch the new model in the next few months. The RE Scram is a more road-oriented model based on the Royal Enfield Himalayan, and is likely to be a more affordable variant when launched, based on the same Himalayan platform, sharing the same engine and frame.

From what we can see from the video, the Scram has a smaller sized front wheel than the Himalayan's 21-inch front wheel, going with the road-oriented personality of the bike. The 411 cc, single-cylinder engine with 24.3 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm at 4,000-4,500 rpm is likely to remain unchanged, as is the 5-speed gearbox. The fuel tank seems to be the same shape as the Himalayan's and so is the seat. What has changed is the riding position, with the Scram offering a slightly sportier stance than the upright ADV stance of the Himalayan.

Along with the smaller front wheel, the bike also gets a different front mudguard, as well as slightly different side panels, and a different two-pod instrument console, possibly shared with the Royal Enfield Meteor 350. Suspension travel has been reduced than the Himalayan as well, so the Scram squats closer to the ground, and the steering geometry appears to be different with a tightened rake angle.
