Rolls-Royce Reveals The New Boat Tail

- The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is the company's newest coachbuilt vehicle
- Every Rolls-Royce Boat Tail will be a highly personalised vehicle
- The car was built after a 4-year collaboration with 3 special clients
British uber-luxury carmaker, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, has unveiled its latest coachbuilt vehicle - the Boat Tail. With this, the company has confirmed that coachbuilding will now be a permanent part of the company' future portfolio. Rolls-Royce Coachbuild was a special commission project that the company undertook a few years ago to make a one-off, bespoke vehicle for a special customer. The result was the Rolls-Royce Sweptail, which was introduced in 2017. Now, Rolls-Royce sees Coachbuilding as an opportunity to take vehicle personalisation to the next level.

Rolls-Royce has made coachbuilding a permanent part of the company' future portfolio with the introduction of the new Boat Tail
Commenting on the latest announcement, Torsten Muller-Otvos, Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce said, "Historically, coachbuilding had been an integral part of the Rolls-Royce story. In the contemporary Rolls-Royce narrative, it has informed our guiding philosophy of Bespoke. But it is so much more. Rolls-Royce Coachbuild is a return to the very roots of our brand. It represents an opportunity for the select few to participate in the creation of utterly unique and truly personal commissions of future historical significance."

The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail was built after the culmination of a four-year collaboration with three of its most special clients
Rolls-Royce says that following the introduction of the Sweptail, several collectors and patrons approached the company to see if they too could collaborate on a unique commission themselves. Thus, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail was conceived. Rolls-Royce says that the Boat Tail is not a concept created to be retrospectively sold, but rather a product that was built after the culmination of a four-year collaboration with three of its most special clients. The company will be building three Boat Tails in total whereby the three cars would share a common body, but each would then be highly personalised as per the requirements of each of the individual owners. Throughout this process, the clients were invited to envisage the scope of the collaboration and influence its direction.

The new Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is a soft-top convertible that is nearly 5.8-metre (5800 mm) long and takes inspiration from a sailing boat and a yacht
Rolls-Royce says that the first Boat Tail, which has been unveiled today, was commissioned by a globally successful couple who envisioned their car to be a response to a life of hard work, success achieved, and celebration required. Taking inspiration from a sailing boat and a yacht, and the original 1932 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Boattail Tourer, the new-age Boat Tail is a soft-top convertible that is nearly 5.8-metre (5800 mm) long, featuring Rolls-Royce's iconic pantheon grille and classic circular lights and LED DRLs. The car gets some sharp character lines and the nautical references are very suggestive in profile, at the same time, the wraparound windshield is reminiscent of the visor on motor launches.

At the press of a button, the rear deck opens in a sweeping butterfly gesture, to reveal an intricate and generous hosting suite
At the rear, the nautical references become more apparent thanks to the aft deck, a modern interpretation of the wooden rear decks of historical Boat Tails, which incorporates large swathes of wood. At the press of a button, the deck opens in a sweeping butterfly gesture, to reveal an intricate and generous hosting suite. In this case, a double refrigerator was developed to house the clients' favourite vintages of Armand de Brignac champagne. The exterior of Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is treated in a complex dual tone of blue and black, with matching multi-spoke alloy wheels. In fact, for the first time, Rolls-Royce is offering a hand-painted gradated bonnet.

The cabin comes with a leather interior that matches the bonnet's colour tone with the front seats swathed in the darker blue hue, recognising Boat Tail's driver-focused intent, while the rear seats are finished in the lighter tone. The minimalistic dashboard houses a unique BOVET 1822 timepieces specifically commissioned by the client for the Boat Tail, while a Montblanc pen will reside in a discretely placed, hand-crafted, case of aluminium and leather, in the car's glove box. Among other features, the car will come with the 15-speaker Bespoke Rolls-Royce Audio System, and in the Boat Tail, the entire floor structure is utilised as resonance chambers for the sound system's bass speakers. The car also comes with the signature Rolls-Royce umbrellas in the suicide doors.
