Tata Motors has officially unveiled the all-new Tata Punch micro SUV in India. It will be the smallest and most affordable SUV in the company's lineup, and it will be positioned below the Nexon subcompact SUV. Tata says that there was a vacuum for smaller, compact SUVs in the sub-4 metre space, and the new Punch addresses that section. The bookings for the new SUV begin have commenced for a token of Rs. 21,000 and the SUV will go on sale in India on October 20, 2021. Here's everything you need to know about the new Tata Punch.

  1. The all-new Tata Punch is built on the same ALFA-ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture) platform as the Tata Altroz, and the SUV employees the company's Impact 2.0 design language.
  2. Tata Motors offers the new Punch micro SUV in four key variants, which the company calls as Personas. These include - Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. All four variants come with the option of a Custom Pack that includes a range of extra features.

  3. The new Tata Punch comes in 7 colour options - Orcus White, Atomic Orange, Daytona Grey, Meteor Bronze, Calypso Red, Tropical Mist, and Tornado Blue. All variants get the White and Grey option, however entry-level Pure trim is limited to these two colours. The Adventure variant additionally also gets the Atomic Orange and Tropical Mist shades, but if you go for the Accomplished trim, you get the Meteor Bronze colour option as well. As for the top-spec Creative variant, it can be bought in all 7 colours in dual-tone options.

  4. Visually, the Punch gets the classic SUV stance which is accentuated by muscular styling elements like the split lighting design with projector lamps and LED DRLs, beefy cladded bumper with tri-arrow pattern grille, side and underbody cladding and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

  5. The Punch gets black ORVMs with integrated turn indicators as standard and a pair of faux roof rails. At the rear, the new Tata Punch come with stylish wraparound LED taillamps, a muscular tailgate with the Punch logo at the centre, and beefy bumper cladding. The car also gets 90-degree opening doors for easy ingress and egress.
  6. The Tata Punch comes with an all-black interior that is well-laid out and it offers a spacious cabin suitable for five individuals. The doors come with silver inserts and the fabric upholstery comes with blue accents and stitching that adds a bit of contrast. The cabin also gets a flat-bottom steering wheel, a cooled glovebox and a rear foldable central armrest.

In terms of features, the Punch comes loaded offerings like - a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a sound system with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters, steering mounts controls, cruise control, a digital display for the instrument cluster, automatic climate control, Auto Folding ORVMs and engine start-stop button. The top-spec model gets the iRA connected car tech as an optional offering.
  8. The Punch gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, central locking, IAC + ESS Technology and Brake Sway Control as standard. Options features include - follow-me-home headlamps, anti-glare IRVM, keyless entry, reverse parking camera, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, rear wiper + wash and defogger, and puddle lamps among others.

  9. The new Tata Punch is powered by the company's tried and tested 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, which also powers the Altroz. The motor is tuned to belt out 84 bhp at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at around 3300 rpm. Then the engine has also been updated with the dynamic pro system to optimise air pressure for better low-end torque. Tata also offered two drive modes - City and Eco.
  10. Transmission choices for the new Tata Punch include a 5-speed manual gearbox, along with an optional five-speed AMT unit. The latter also comes with a TractionPro Mode, which allows driving through treacherous road conditions with low traction a lot easier.
