ABB has announced that it will provide the charging technology for the Gen3 cars in Formula E World Championship. ABB has been title partner of the championship since Season 4. Gen3 cars will be racing as of Season 9 (2022-2023), with the vehicles designed to be lighter, faster and more energy-efficient. Together with engineers from motorsport governing body the FIA and Formula E, ABB's Electrification teams are currently working on the specifications and requirements to develop an innovative and safe solution for charging the Gen3 cars through portable charging units that can charge two cars simultaneously.

The Mercedes-AMG F1 team will have a front-row start in the 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas secured the top positions during qualifying. Hamilton carried over his form from the last weekend securing his career's 90th pole position with a lap time of 1m13.443s in Q3, 0.107s clear of his teammate. Starting in the second row though will be the surprising pair of Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez from Racing Point, 0.930s off Hamilton's time. Behind the four Mercedes engined cars came Scuderia Ferrari with a fifth place for Sebastian Vettel followed by Charles Leclerc in sixth place. This has been the team's best qualifying result so far this season.

Pol Espargaro has been signed on to join Marc Marquez at the Repsol Honda MotoGP team, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has confirmed. The Spanish rider has signed a two-year deal with the factory team and makes his switch from KTM. Espargaro replaces Alex Marquez at Honda who was previously signed on but has now been moved to the LCR Honda satellite team for next year through 2022. Alex though will go on to make his premier-class debut with Honda this weekend. KTM had announced Espargaro's exit at the end of this season last month, fuelling speculations that the rider was heading for Honda.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton dominated the 2020 Styrian GP starting the race from pole position. The race concluded with a 1-2 finish for Mercedes as Valtteri Bottas finished second, while the front row starting Max Verstappen of Red Bull took the final spot on the podium. The Styrian GP started with a disaster for Scuderia Ferrari as drivers Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel crashed on the opening lap after making contact with each other. Leclerc took full responsibility of the incident in a post-race statement.

Mercedes dominates the second round of the 2020 F1 season with Lewis Hamilton taking the pole position in the wet and wild Styrian Grand Prix. Held at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, the weather gods made a dramatic change over the last weekend with showers aplenty, and Hamilton managed to put out an impressive time of 1m19.273s in Q3. He beat Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen to the pole who qualified second, 1.216s clear of Hamilton. Carlos Sainz Jr of McLaren managed to bag P3, while 2020 Austrian GP winner Valtteri Bottas starts at P4.

Formula 1 has announced two new race tracks that have been added to the revised 2020 calendar. The premier-class event will be heading to the Mugello Circuit in Italy for the very first time along with the Sochi Circuit in Russia. The former though is a big deal as it will also host Scuderia Ferrari's 1000th race in F1. Mugello is owned by Ferrari, which makes the race all the more special for the Italian factory team's fans. The Tuscan GP - as it will be called - will be held between September 11-13, 2020, a week after the Italian GP in Monza. The 2020 Russian GP will take place on the originally scheduled dates - September 25-27.

Twenty-months after announcing his retirement from the sport, iconic driver Fernando Alonso has confirmed his return to Formula 1 in 2021. The iconic F1 driver has inked a deal with Renault and will be joining Esteban Ocon in the paddock. This will be the Spaniard's third separate stint with Renault having raced with the team between 2003-2006, which is also when he won two world titles, followed by a stint in 2008-2009. The Two-time world champion makes a return after having raced in other forms of motorsport challenges including the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the Dakar in the past year.

The World Rally Championship (WRC) is the latest premier-class motorsport event to announce its return this year to complete the remainder of the season. The 48th season of the FIA WRC will see at least eight more rallies happening this year, with the dates for the Belgian and Croatian rally still to be confirmed. The rallies are scheduled to kick-start from September 4-6. The 2020 WRC season had come to an indefinite halt due to the pandemic after completing just three rounds held in Monte Carlo, Sweden and Mexico.
