Mercedes-AMG is paying a tribute to Ferrari's 1,000th F1 race by painting the AMG GT R safety cars in red.

Sebastian Vettel, who is currently at the fag-end of a 5-year stint with Ferrari, will leave the Italian team at the end of the year.

The legendary Italian team completed its first Formula One race in 1950 at Monaco.
