  • The bikes need a software patch upgrade to rectify the problem
  • Units from the first batch of the KTM 390 and 125 Duke have had the issue
  • KTM dealerships will upgrade the software free of charge

The KTM 390 Duke and 125 Duke have been making heads turn with their sharp styling, superior performance and the unique LED headlamp cluster. However, the LED headlight unit has been facing certain issues and that's why both the bikes have been recalled in Europe. The headlamp unit faced rebooting issues, wherein the headlamp would randomly switch off and then on again. While not much of a concern during the day, it was a potential safety hazard at night.

The updated KTM 390 Duke went on sale earlier this year

In an official statement, KTM Europe said, "During the internal endurance testing, KTM experienced some cases of sporadic reboots of the LED headlight. As this may lead to potentially dangerous riding situations, the software of the headlight needs to be updated as soon as possible."

Fortunately, the repair for the said issue is rather simple and needs a software upgrade on the bikes. KTM dealerships in Europe will be upgrading the same free of charge and the bike maker has requested customers to reach out to their respective dealerships if they are facing the issue. KTM Europe's online service website can also be used by the owner to check if their bike is affected by the recall.

The TFT instrument console on certain units also faced rebooting issues

Incidentally, certain customers have also complained of the headlight reboot on the KTM 390 Duke sold in India. Not only the headlight, but the full-colour TFT instrument console would restart as well. KTM dealerships confirmed the development to Carandbike, while the software patch has been made on the Indian models and updated when the bike are brought in for a service. The bike maker confirmed that only a few examples from the first batch of bikes faced the issue, and the dealers are equipped with fixing the same.

Launched in India earlier this year, the KTM 390 Duke is massive upgrade over its predecessor sporting the very fancy LED headlamp cluster and TFT instrument console. The bike is now Euro 4 compliant and gets a side-mounted exhaust along with ride-by-wire. We even rode the new 390 Duke earlier this year and were quite impressed with the changes.
