Highlights

  • Husqvarna Norden 901 inches closer to production; teased in new video
  • Husqvarna Norden 901 based on KTM 890 Adventure
  • Production model expected to be unveiled later this year

Husqvarna has released a new video of the upcoming mid-size adventure bike, the Husqvarna Norden 901, showing the bike being tested on the volcanic plains of Iceland. The video shows two advance prototypes ridden in Iceland, one by five-time Dakar rally winner Cyril Despres, and the other by extreme explorer Mike Horn, who has also raced the Dakar on four wheels. And going by what we can see in this latest video, the Norden 901 seems to be a very capable off-road machine, especially in the right hands.

Based on the KTM 890 Adventure, the test bikes of the Norden 901 look as capable as the KTM, and it's clear that the bikes shown in the video are almost production-ready, possibly even production-spec models. What is also good to see is that very little has changed on these bikes from the first prototypes we saw two years ago. Some changes include the two-part instrument console which has been replaced by a more traditional conventional 5-inch, full colour TFT screen. Two versions of the Norden 901 are expected, with one being more off-road and adventure-focussed with a high mudguard, longer-travel suspension and dual-sport tyres. The other will be a more tarmac touring focussed version with shorter suspension and road-biased tyres.

The Husqvarna Norden 901 is based on the KTM 890 Adventure, and will use the same 889 cc parallel-twin engine used in the KTM, but will be distinguished by unique styling, designed by Austrian design firm Kiska. Swedish brand Husqvarna is owned by KTM, and Kiska Design is also part of the larger Pierer Mobility Group, which owns both KTM and Husqvarna, as well as GasGas. India's Bajaj Auto also has stake in Pierer Mobility. The Husqvarna Norden 901 is expected to be showcased in production version later this year, and likely to be available on sale early next year. So far, there's no news of it being launched in India.
