India is well on its way to become one of the leading economies in the world, and supporting this endeavour has been the automotive industry over the years. Domestic and international manufacturers have made India their home and produced cars that changed the way we travel today. From contract manufacturing vehicles, developing our own first car, to exporting vehicles for the world, we truly have arrived and there's still more room to grow. As we celebrate our 72nd Independence Day, let's a take a look back at the cars that played a major role in shaping up the the Indian automobile market as we know it today.

One of the very first premium SUVs to go on sale in India, the Honda CR-V has been around for a while now. That's four generations to be precise. However, Honda Cars India will soon introduce the fifth generation of the model but this time, the CR-V has changed in a big way. Not only does it now come with a diesel engine but it's also a seven-seater as well. Both those factors are a first for the 2019 CR-V and brings it up to speed with a host of other full-size SUVs. With the launch scheduled in the first half of October this year, we take a quick look at where the 2019 Honda CR-V stacks up against its rivals including the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Volkswagen Tiguan, and the Skoda Kodiaq.

It's been 72 years since India achieved Independence and there's a lot happening in the automotive world right now. The Indian auto industry is currently one of the fastest growing ones globally and sensing this growth there are a whole bunch of car makers who are getting ready to roll out their cars in the country. However, though we are delighted that there are more cars coming to the country, we wish that there were more carmakers that would make their way to India. But there are a few that have not come to India at all, though their cars have found owners in the country, we really wish these carmakers came to India.

While the Mercedes-Benz W123 Wagon, or more correctly known as the S123, essentially, the E-Class of the late 70s and early 80s is a common car in some parts of the world and isn't exactly a top dollar classic, this one is a bit special. Well documented as the last car John Lennon ever rode in, this 1979 Mercedes-Benz 300TD will soon come up for auction in the United States. The Mercedes-Benz was ordered by Yoko Ono though John's personal assistant Fredric Seaman in late 1978 and in fact was in the basement of the 'Dakota' building when Lennon was shot down by Mark David Chapman

Niki Lauda, the Formula 1 legend and three time F1 champion has undergone a lung transplant after suffering from a 'severe lung disease' according to reports. An official statement by the Vienna General Hospital said, "Due to a severe affection of the lungs, Niki Lauda had to undergo a lung transplantation at the AKH Vienna today. We kindly ask for your understanding that the family won't give any official statements and we ask to protect the privacy of the Lauda family.
