This announcement comes after complaints about prominent electric two-wheeler (E2W) manufacturers selling chargers at extra cost prompted a response from the heavy industries ministry.

Under what it terms a ‘goodwill benefit scheme’, TVS Motor Company will reimburse ‘customers who have paid over and above the threshold limit’ of the FAME-II scheme.

Both variants of the Vida V1 electric scooter have had their prices reduced by Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000.

EV manufacturers like Ola Electric, TVS Motor Company, Hero MotoCorp and Ather Energy have been asked to refund the cost of home chargers to customers, in order to continue getting benefits from FAME II subsidy scheme.

Compared to March, registrations of electric two-wheelers in India dropped by 23 per cent in the month of April as the industry continues to grapple with controversy over subsidies.

In April 2023, Ather Energy sold 8182 electric scooters in India. Compared to the 3779 EVs sold during the same month last year, the company witnessed a year-on-year growth of 117 per cent.
