The Ministry of New and Renewable Resources RK Singh has approved the revised set of guidelines with regard to electric vehicle charging in India. The Union Minister said that the revised guidelines will address the concerns of EV owners and are aimed to encourage developing an ecosystem for charging EVs in a phased manner. The new guidelines replace the ones that were first issued in December last year and were made taking into consideration suggestions from the industry and EV charging manufacturers. The amendments suggest that there needs to be at least one charging station for every three sq.km. in cities, one station for every 25 km on both sides of the roads and highways.

Bangalore-based Ather Energy has discontinued its entry-level 340 electric scooter. The company took to its social media channels to announce the development and the scooter has also been delisted from the company's website as well. Explaining the decision, the manufacturer said that the Ather 340 had dismal demand over the flagship 450. The latter grabbed 99 per cent of the orders despite the high pricing. Encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the state, the government of Tamil Nadu has announced the Electric Vehicle Policy draft with a number of recommendations and changes for the EV sector. The big takeaway from the announcement will be the 100 per cent exemption on registration fees for EVs until the end of 2022. According to the policy draft, the state government plans to become a centre for the EV ecosystem, not just in demand but manufacturing as well. The draft proposes a number of incentives to industries and buyers in a bid as it plans to attract Rs. 50,000 crore of investment in EV manufacturing and creation of over 1.5 lakh new jobs.
