EICMA 2016: Suzuki GSX250R Makes European Debut
Highlights
- Suzuki has showcased the GSX250R and DL250 Strom at EICMA
- The new Suzuki GSX250R shares its styling with the GSX-1000R
- Suzuki India has no plans to introduce the new 250cc motorcycles
Along with the all-new DL250 V-Strom, Suzuki Motorcycle has introduced the GSX250R in Europe at EICMA, just weeks after being unveiled in China, where it goes by the moniker 'GSX-R250'. The Japanese two-wheeler marque's latest offering in the super sport category will compete in the highly popular 250cc segment.
The new Suzuki GSX-250R truly does justice to the GSX name both in terms of styling and proportions. While the bike does come with the R tag, the new GSX250R is a bit different from its older and sportier cousins - the GSX750R or the top of the line GSX1000R. This one is more suited to be a sporty motorcycle that can also be used for commuting rather than just being a track-focused bike. In fact, even the two piece handle bar is mounted a bit higher compared to what you generally find in a super sport to aid a slightly relaxed riding posture.
The new GSX-250R is powered by a 249cc twin-cylinder engine tuned to churn out a decent 24.7bhp at 8000rpm and 23.3Nm of torque at 6500rpm and comes mated to a 6-speed transmission. The bike gets 17-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels that are shod in IRC tyres (110/80 17 front, 140/55 17 rear), along with KYB suspension front and rear. The bike also comes with petal discs for both front and rear wheels with an ABS system from Bosch.
The quality, fit and finish all look pretty solid, and the colour schemes are remarkably mature in white, black or MotoGP-inspired blue. The feature list includes a classy and comprehensive all-LCD white-on-black dash, LED taillight and front running lights. With a seat height of 790mm, this sporty little offering should be within the leg range of most riders and also manageable thanks to the kerb weight if just 181 kg.
However, before you get your hopes high we have already told you that, Suzuki India has no plans of introducing either of the bikes anytime soon.
