Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced that it will resume vehicle production at its Bidadi plant, in Karnataka, from July 20. The directive was issued as part of the State Government's efforts to fight the spread of the coronavirus, and the rising Covid-19 positive cases in Karnataka.

Nissan Motor Co is planning a 30% year-on-year cut in global vehicle production through December as falling demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic complicates its turnaround efforts, two sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today announced the temporary halting of production at its plant in Bidadi, Karnataka starting from July 14 (second shift) to July 22nd (first shift). This is in accordance with the directives issued by the Government of Karnataka as well as to support the Government. The company first and foremost, voluntarily suspended production at its plant in Bidadi, even before the national lockdown was announced in March. This was done to ensure the safety and well-being of all its employees.

The first quarter of 2020-21 is expected to witness a sharp decline, and any upside will be possible only later in the year, according to TVS Motor Company.

An EMI deferment of three months has been announced on cars like the Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Camry Hybrid, Yaris and Glanza.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Saturday officially confirmed that four of its employees at the Bidadi plant in Karnataka have tested positive for the COVID-19. The company had earlier reported 14 Covid-19 positive cases of its employees. The total number of the cases at the facility has increased to 18. Last month, the company suspended operation at the Bidadi manufacturing plant after two employees were infected by the deadly virus. However, the production at the facility resumed next week after ensuring proper sanitisation of all facilities in the plant.

While movies tend to show a dystopian world set in the future that will require cars built like tanks, the Coronavirus pandemic has put the world in a similar position, which has required people to make some handy vehicle modifications of their own. While these aren't tanks, they do come with utility upgrades to fight the COVID-19 crisis.
