Auto Sales March 2022: Tata's PV Sales Grow 43 Per Cent At 42,293 Units

Homegrown carmaker Tata Motors registered robust sales in the month of March 2022, as well as with its Q4 2022 results, registering growth in all segments, despite supply challenges affected by the global shortage of semiconductors. The company is firing on all cylinders, and for the right reasons, as its biggest product offensive in recent months has impacted positively on its overall growth. In the domestic market, the company registered an overall 30 per cent growth, recording 86,718 units sold in March 2022, compared to the 66,462 units sold in March 2021. The Q4 2022 results also saw an upward growth with a 28 per cent hike in its overall domestic sales as it registered 2,33,078 units as against 1,82,477 units in Q4 FY21.

Compared to FY21, where Tata sold 4,64,062 units, the company registered 6,92,554 units in FY22, a 49 per cent growth in its domestic sales. In terms of Passenger Vehicles (PVs) alone, Tata Motors recorded its highest-ever annual sales of 3,70,372 units in FY22, up by 67 per cent as against 1,31,196 units sold in FY21. It also recorded a growth of 47 per cent, its highest-ever quarterly sales in Q4FY22, with 1,23,051 units, as compared to 83,857 units sold in Q4FY21. In the month of March 2022, the company recorded its highest-ever monthly sales of 42,293 units, seeing an upward trend of 43 per cent against 29,654 units in March 2021.

Tata Motors has also registered strong numbers with its electric vehicles.

Tata Motors has also registered strong numbers with its electric vehicles, backed by the flagship Tata Nexon EV as well as the recently introduced Tata Tigor EV. The company registered its highest-ever annual EV sales of 19,106 units in FY22, up by 353 per cent, compared to 4,219 units in FY21. It performed well in Q4FY22 as well, recording a growth of 432 per cent with sales of 9,095 units as against 1,711 EVs sold in Q4FY21. In March 2022, the company sold 3,357 EV units, against 705 units sold in March 2021, registering a growth of 377 per cent.

The Commercial Vehicle segment, also saw a growth in its total domestic sales, recording 21 per cent growth, as it sold 44,425 units in March 2022, compared to 36,808 units sold in March 2021. The Q4FY22 sales recorded sales of 48,202 units, as against 40,647 sold in the same period last year, a hike of 15.67 per cent. The company registered annual CV sales of 3,22,182 units in FY22, up by 33 per cent, compared to 2,42,037 units in FY21.

However, the exports saw a dip in sales, as the company registered a decline of 28 per cent in March 2022, exporting 2,625 units compared to 3,654 units in March 2021. However, the Q4FY22 numbers are prominent, with 9,843 exported, a 16 per cent rise, compared to the 8,517 units exported in the same period last year. The FY22 overseas sales numbers are even more robust, as the company exported 34,790 units against 20,283 units in FY21, a growth of 72 per cent. Overall, the cumulative sales of CVs for the company in the month of March 2022 stood at 47,050 units as against 40,462 units from March 2021, a growth of 16 per cent.
