2021 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT Announced

Highlights
- Based on 2021 Suzuki GSX-S1000 litre-class naked, the GT is a tourer
- 999 cc inline four-cylinder engine makes 150 bhp, 106 Nm
- New rear sub-frame, longer seat, better wind protection
Suzuki has introduced a new sports tourer based on the recently updated Suzuki GSX-S1000GT. The new GT sports tourer has more or less the same styling as the naked GSX-S1000 which was introduced earlier this year, but gets a tall windshield, a fairing and longer seat for more pillion comfort. The GT's engine is the same 150 bhp inline four-cylinder engine of the GSX-S1000, with peak power coming in at 11,000 rpm and 106 Nm of peak torque kicking in at 9,250 rpm. What is different from the naked is the new bolt-on subframe which is stronger and sturdier for more luggage and pillion-carrying capability than the naked GSX-S1000.

The styling incorporates sharp creases and angles, underlining the design element of current trends. It's still not a breathtakingly beautiful bike, but there's not much to complain. The fuel tank area is carried over directly from the naked, but the GT gets a bigger front fairing offering better wind protection, as well as a longer and more comfortable seat. The face employs LED headlights which are mounted right at the nose, and protruding out of the fairing. It looks sporty, but viewed head-on, the face holds an angry expression.

The new 6.5-inch TFT screen is the first for a Suzuki, and also offers smartphone connectivity.
The GT gets a new 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen, and includes smartphone connectivity. The rider can get call info, navigation, contacts, music and even an appointment calendar on display if required, all synced through a smartphone via the Suzuki mySpin app. There's LED lighting all round, and Suzuki's S.I.R.S. intelligent riding system electronics suite. There are multiple riding modes, altering power delivery and output as well as rider aid settings to suit riding conditions and preferences. Also included is a bi-directional quickshifter as standard.

The Suzuki GSX-S1000GT is available in two variants, with the GT+ gettng standard panniers. The panniers are optional on the GT.
The KYB suspension and Brembo brakes of the standard GSX-S remain, with 43 mm upside down manually adjustable forks and a preload and rebound adjustable rear monoshock. Braking duties are handled by radial Brembo brake calipers gripping twin 310 mm discs on the front wheel, and a single 240 mm single disc on the rear wheel, with standard ABS. There's no cornering function on the system. The GT also gets cruise control and low RPM assist which helps prevent the bike from stalling at low revs.

The big change is the rear subframe and longer seat, suited for carrying luggage and a pillion.
The GSX-S1000GT has a kerb weight of 226 kg, and the new rear subframe also allows installing quick-release panniers that are optional on the GT model, but standard on the GT+ model. The new GT will be available in two colours, Metallic Reflective Blue and Glass Sparkle Black. So far, India availability is uncertain.
