Jaguar Land Rover Working on an All-Electric Car?
Highlights
The latest name to join the race that all-electric cars seem to have become is Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). The Tata Motors-owned British carmaker is believed to gearing up to make its first all-electric car in Austria, with the vehicle's production set to begin next year.
British newspaper, The Sunday Times, claims the company is considering a small production line in Austria, where it will make about 10,000 cars a year. Interestingly, the move seems to have been timed well to avoid imminent European Union emission fines.
That said, Jaguar Land Rover's apparent decision to take the plunge into the all-electric car market comes as no surprise considering that all major carmakers have been rushing to make electric and hybrid cars.
Though Jaguar Land Rover now sells about half-a-million cars across the globe, it seems to be in no mood to slow down just yet. Case in point, the baby Jag aka Jaguar XE, the F-Pace SUV, the new factory in China, and another one in Brazil, which is under construction. Furthermore, the British luxury carmaker is also looking at a factory in US.
