We told you about the duel between BMW and Audi when it came to laser light technology. The sequence of events so far has been this; BMW showcased it and said that it would be an option in the i8.
Audi then showed off its own technology and said that they would be the first to offer laser headlamps in a production car. Recently BMW delivered the first production model with the innovative lighting technology and that's where things stand.
While Audi originally claimed their R8 LMX would become the "world's first production car with laser high beams," BMW beat them to that claim. So obviously, Audi has rehashed their wording and rebranded the R8 LMX as the "fastest series car with a laser beam."
Audi says that the R8 LMX has a 5.2-litre V10 engine that develops 570bhp and 540 Nm of torque. Acceleration is swift too and it does 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and hits a top speed of 320 km/h. Now when you compare these figures to that of the i8, the R8 LMX truly stands out. The i8 runs from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and tops out at 250 km/h. And so, the battle between Audi and BMW continues.
