1. Hero Splendor+
The Hero Splendor+ is one of the perfect options for those who desire a commuter with great mileage, is easy to maintain, and doesn't cost a bomb to own, of course. The Hero Splendor+ is available in three variants- Drum Self Cast, i3s Drum Self Cast, and i3s Drum Self Cast Matt Shield Gold, priced at Rs. 69,380, Rs, 70,700 and Rs. 71,700 respectively (ex-showroom, India).
It features a 97.2 cc engine that 7.91 bhp @8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 8.05 Nm @6,000 rpm paired to a 4-speed transmission. The commuter motorcycle returns a healthy fuel efficiency figure of 70 kmpl from its 11-litre capacity fuel tank.
2. Bajaj CT 110X
Launched in 2021, Bajaj updated the ultra-popular CT100 motorcycle with a more rugged variant called the Bajaj CT100X, priced at Rs. 65,453 (ex-showroom, India). Bajaj introduced several upgrades to the motorcycle to make it look more durable than before with the help of thicker crash guards, molded footholds, and carrier at the rear with a load capacity of 7 kg, and a new, dual-textured seat.
Power continues to be sourced from the 115 cc DTS-i engine delivering 8.48 bhp @7,500 rpm, and peak torque of 9.81 Nm @5,000 rpm. The engine is paired to a 4-speed gearbox. Its higher ground clearance of 170 mm allows it to tackle Indian roads with ease. A wheelbase of 1,285 mm is said to provide better stability on bad roads, while an efficiency of 70 kmpl guarantees fewer trips to the fuel station.
3. Hero Glamour 125
Yet another best-seller from the stable of Hero MotoCorp, the Hero Glamour 125 gets a 124.7 cc BS6 engine that produces 10.72 bhp and 10.6 Nm of torque. Hero Glamour has both front and rear drum brakes, resulting in a combined stopping system for both wheels. The tank size of the Hero Glamour 125 is 13-litre and weighs 122 kg. The Hero Glamour 125 excels in terms of mileage, returning more than 60 kmpl. It has a smooth ride quality, making it comfortable to ride on poor roads. Because of its weight, the bike is quite steady, even at higher speeds.
Hero Glamour is available in 6 colors- Sports Red, Techno Blue, Radiant Red, Matt Vernier Grey, 100M Edition, and Midnight Black. Its variants include Hero Glamour Blaze 125, Hero Glamour 100 Million Edition, Hero Glamour Disc Brake Model, Hero Glamour Blaze Disc Brake Model, and Hero Glamour 100 Million Edition Disc. The prices for the variants range between Rs. 76,500 to Rs. 82,300 (ex-showroom, India).
4. Honda Shine
Honda Shine is a commuter bike, which is available at a starting price of Rs. 76,314 for the drum variant and Rs. 80,314 (both prices ex-showroom, India) for the disc trim. Honda Shine was first launched in April 2006 and soon became India's largest selling 125 cc motorcycle by 2009. This is powered by a 124.7 cc BS6 engine that develops 10.50 bhp and a torque of 11 Nm.
The Honda Shine weighs 115 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 10.5-litre. As far as mileage is concerned, Honda Shine gives around 50-55 kmpl in the city and 60-65 kmpl on highways. The 18-inch wheels and the frugal air-cooled engine makes the Honda Shine a special one with a solid all-around package.
5. TVS Raider
Winner of Commuter Motorcycle of the Year at the carandbike Awards 2022, TVS Raider impresses with its bold character, fun-to-ride performance, and overall usability. The overall design, with a sculpted fuel tank and sharp creases, add muscle to the design and looks more in line with the styling of a 150 cc motorcycle than a 125 cc. The LED taillight, with a more toned-down tail section, completes the design. It's a handsome-looking bike and certainly looks upmarket.
The Raider is priced at Rs. 84,573 for the drum variant and Rs. 90,989 for the disc variant (ex-showroom, India). The TVS Raider 125 is powered by an all-new 124.8 cc, air and oil-cooled, three-valve engine, which produces 11.2 bhp @7,500 rpm and 11.2 Nm @6,000 rpm, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. Acceleration from 0 to 60 kmph is at a claimed 5.9 seconds. The bike also gets two riding modes- Eco and Power, with Power mode, said to offer 10 per cent more power at the top-end.
