Highlights

  • The Volvo XC40 will be revealed on September 21
  • The car is based on the new CMA architecture
  • The XC40 is likely to come to India next year

It’s probably the most anticipated of launches globally, the Volvo XC40 and after a ton of teases we finally get to see a video which actually shows off the side of the car. We finally see the whole of the car which is where we start to notice that there are very subtle differences between the 40.1 concept and the production version.

There are a number of changes that the production model has undergone and  for starters, you can see the car get conventional door handles and all those cameras which worked as side and rear view mirrors have gone and you get a regular setup. But the XC40 resembles the family of SUVs and carries the DNA from its elder brothers. It’s built on the company's new CMA platform instead of the SPA that underpins the XC90 and XC60 and is the first model to ride on this newly developed architecture, which makes it all the more important for the company.

The XC40 will offer a 5-seater cabin layout which has been designed in line with the current Volvo models. Volvo's signature vertical touchscreen infotainment system takes centre stage on the dashboard while the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel has been redesigned. The interior materials look premium, something that you would expect from a Volvo, and the contoured seats appear to be a nice place to be in. There is a wide centre armrest for the driver and co-passenger and several cubby holes as well.

Powertrain wise, Volvo XC40 will feature a range of three and four-cylinder engines in both petrol and diesel iterations along with a plug-in hybrid as well. We will come to know the actual specifications only when the car is unveiled on September 21 and we’ll be right there to tell you all about it.
