Volvo S90, XC60 Petrol Mild-Hybrid Launched In India; Prices Start At Rs. 61.9 Lakh

Volvo Car India has launched the petrol mild-hybrid version of the 2021 S90 sedan and XC60 SUV in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 61.9 lakh for the S90 while the XC60 too has been priced at Rs. 61.9 lakh. Moreover, Volvo is also offering a three-years warranty and service shceme at an additonal cost of Rs. 75,000 for both models. The move comes in the direction of Volvo's shift towards cleaner technologies as the Swedish carmaker is gearing up to make its transitions from diesel to petrol powertrains and eventually to an all-electric range by the end of this decade. In fact by 2030, expect to see every model in Volvo's line-up to have an electrified variant as well. Even in the Indian market, as the company plans to double its sales in this financial year, it is also giving a higher impetus on electric offerings having confirmed the launch of the new Volvo XC40 Recharge EV in 2022.

Now coming back to the Volvo XC60, the SUV feature the latest Pilot Assist function. Then it is also updated with an Android-powered touchscreen infotainment system packed with built-in Google apps with voice assistant and services along with the brand's 'Digital Services' package. Under the hood, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine is coupled with the 48-volt mild-hybrid electric motor and in combination it belts out 247 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed gearbox as standard.

The Volvo S90 petrol mild-hybrid model also offers similar features seen on the XC60. It also gets subtle design updates like the new grille which now sports the brand's new logo, tweaked front and rear bumpers with a new chrome line, new alloy wheels, and new body colours. Then, it is powered by the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder motor coupled with the 48-volt mild-hybrid electric motor and in the same state of tune. So the powertrian churns out 247 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque while the engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Both models will be sold in India as company's knocked down (CKD) units and while the Volvo XC60 will take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, upcoming Audi Q5 facelift, Lexus NX300h Hybrid, and Jaguar F-Pace among others, the S90 sedan will go up against models like the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Lexus ES Hybrid and Jaguar XF among others.
