This year, Victory Motorcycles will be participating at the Isle of Man TT with an all-new electric race bike - the Victory RR. William Dunlop, a veteran TT racer will be piloting the Victory RR this year. The motorcycle is significantly different from the Brammo model that participated last year and was piloted to a podium finish by Lee Johnston and Guy Martin.
The electric motor now produces 170bhp of max power and 240Nm of max torque. The battery has been completely redesigned and chassis too sees a lot of changes. Earlier, the race motorcycle was using an extruded aluminium twin-spar chassis and this time, it will be using a steel trellis frame. Victory says that the 0-100kmph acceleration times are less than 3 seconds while the top speed is in the region of 260kmph. The Victory RR tips the scale at 240kg and run Metzeler tyres at the front and rear.
Victory Racing's team manager, Brian Wismann said: "Our electric Empulse RR race bike placed third on the podium in the TT Zero race last year, which we were thrilled with. Using the data we gathered on our laps of the TT course has helped us to develop a new battery module as well as improving the powertrain. We feel like we can return to the TT with more performance as well as being able to test this technology for our future products."
Victory says that it is extremely important for it to participate in events such as the IOM TT and the Pikes International Hill Climb because these events prove to be the best testing ground for electric technologies of the production models. Also, the data accumulated at these events is crucial for further development of the production models.
