Two-Wheeler Sales September 2021: Royal Enfield Sales Decline 50 Per Cent

Royal Enfield has registered monthly sales of 33,529 motorcycles in September 2021, as against sales of 60,331 units in September 2020, a year ago. The company says the sales numbers are still decent, despite a global semiconductor shortage which has hit production across brands. In a statement, Royal Enfield said that the ongoing global shortage of semiconductor chips, and the recent lockdown in certain source markets had impacted volumes for September. The situation improved towards the end of the month, and availability of parts is expected to start scaling up from Q3 FY 2022.

In the domestic market, Royal Enfield registered sales of 27,233 units in September 2021, with volumes skidding 52 per cent from September 2020, when Royal Enfield had despatched 56,200 units. Exports though continue to be robust, with September 2021 exports growing by a healthy 52 per cent despite the global semiconductor shortage. Royal Enfield despatched 6,296 motorcycles in September 2021, compared to 4,131 motorcycles in September 2020. Overall volumes declined by 44 per cent t0 33,529 motorcycles, from 60,331 motorcycles in the same month a year ago.

In the year-to-date period (April to September 2021), exports have grown by a massive 222 per cent, from 11,443 units in the period a year ago, to 36,797 units in the same period in the current year. Domestic sales in the year-to-date period grew by 7 per cent, from 1,96,635 units to 2,10,270 units in this year's period from April to September 2021.

In September 2021, Royal Enfield announced the first edition of the Continental GT Cup 2021, with its foray into track racing for new entrants as well as experienced riders. Royal Enfield has also announced a new tie-up with TCX to offer a wide range of riding and lifestyle boots.
