The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will be based on the Triumph Trident 660 platform

The Tiger Sport 660 appears to have the same 660 cc inline three-cylinder engine of the Triumph Trident 660. On the Trident 660, the engine makes 80 bhp at 10,250 rpm and 64 Nm at 6,250 rpm. The idea is to offer Triumph's signature triple engine refinement, but with performance which will be accessible and unintimidating for inexperienced riders. The Tiger Sport 660 is targeted at riders who want to upgrade from entry-level adventure bikes, but is more of a tarmac touring model, rather than an out-and-out off-road capable mid-size adventure bike.

The Tiger Sport 660 is a road-oriented touring bike based on the Trident 660 platform

The frame, swingarm and engine seem to be borrowed from the Trident 660, but the suspension seems to have slightly more travel than the roadster it's based on. The wheels are 17-inchers shod with road-going rubber, so the Tiger Sport 660 will be a touring model, built with wind protection and made for long distance tarmac touring. While the chassis seems to be shared with the Trident 660, the rear sub-frame could be different, to allow for more pillion space, as well as luggage-carrying ability.

The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will share the same engine and chassis with the Trident 660, but will come with a half-fairing and comfortable ergonomics

The Tiger Sport 660 though gets a much more upright riding position, with a taller handlebar, more mid-set rider footpegs and a slightly longer seat. The front fairing sports twin headlamps, with a small windscreen for touring duties. We expect the Tiger Sport 660 to be priced attractively once it's launched in India, with ex-showroom prices somewhere around Rs. 7.5 lakh. At this stage, there's no confirmation of an off-road centric model based on the same platform, but we won't be surprised if Triumph follows up the Tiger Sport 660 with a spoked wheel version, with more suspension travel, and better off-road capability.
